Travel Diary - I am 35 years old, live in the UK and this week am on holiday in Scotland driving the North Coast 500 with my dog
2020.09.16 12:50 Mitchlou84Travel Diary - I am 35 years old, live in the UK and this week am on holiday in Scotland driving the North Coast 500 with my dog
I am 35 years old make £50,000 live in NW UK and work as an accountant. This week i’m on holiday with just my dog, driving round the North Coast 500, Scotland’s answer to Route 66. Day 1 - Saturday 6.30am -Eeek it’s here... I wake up and bring coffee upstairs to bed with the dog M for a last cuddle. I’m going to really miss my husband D but I do understand him not wanting to close his business again so soon after being closed for 3 months due to Covid. It might seem odd me holidaying on my own but we are very happily married - honest. 8am - I start getting my stuff together. I’m not a big fan of breakfast early on after waking up, but I have a long way to go today so I grab a muffin.I get myself ready, then get D to walk with me to the park, so that M can be thoroughly emptied and he gets a good run around. He’s not over pleased with his new car harness (he usually travels in D’s car with a dog guard) but I strap him in and off we set. 334 miles to go... 9am - I blast some tunes and M goes straight to sleep, and I push through until Gretna Green which takes just under 2 hours. I’ve often driven past here, but never stopped, but I need a wee and think it’s time to let M out too. We have a quick walk through around the visitor centre complex. 11.30am - I then hop back in the car, and my next stop is the Starbucks at the services. I had made myself a packed lunch but I annoyingly left it in the fridge and so I pick up a tuna melt and an iced coffee from some credit on my app. I’m breezing along at this point, the scenery looks stunning and I can’t understand why the sat nav is saying it’s going to take so long to arrive. I make a quick stop at a lay-by just to see if M wants a wee or a drink. Then I hit the outskirts of Perth... What should be the last hour takes 2, in fact it takes 30 minutes to drive a mile. I’m absolutely exhausted by this point and M is telling me he’s understandably fed up. We start moving again and I’m so tired it’s getting dangerous, and I notice that some of the lay-bys have access to a lovely riverside path, so I stop. I put M on his lead and we just do a 10 minute walk, which makes both of us feel better. Then the last 30 minutes through the most stunning scenery, and we’re here. Kingussie in the Cairngorms. I check in, this was one of the cheapest hotels and it’s great, they upgraded me to en-suite which was super kind, and the room is great albeit very hot. 4.30pm - I dump my bags and head straight out with M. I find a couple of places to let him off, then a lovely river for him to cool off as he’s super warm. Then to the hotel bar for a well deserved cold pint £4. The staff and (fairly well lubricated for 5pm) locals are so unbelievably friendly, couldn’t have picked a better place to stay. I shower as I’m dripping, get changed into something cooler, which I sweat in immediately as the room is boiling, then we walk out to where I have booked for dinner - the tipsy laird. The staff again are super friendly, and I order a cider, and the Tipsy burger with cheese. Everyone loved M and he was brought water straight away, but the only problem was that the table I was given was on the through flow to the toilets/kitchen so he was up and down like a yo yo saying hi to everyone, and I didn’t get the most relaxed meal. The burger comes though and it’s massive! Big feed for £12. I decide to leave after this, we’re parked in the middle of the through flow really, and it’s not super restful for either of us, so I pay the bill £15.65 and walk back the same way as earlier Max can have a run around and I phone D for a quick chat. 8.00pm - I head back to my hotel and buy a bottle of wine. £15.50 that I drink a glass of in the bar, a glass in bed, and pack the rest for another night. I watch a bit of tv on my iPad, and have an early night as we have an adventure tomorrow... Miles travelled - 334 Hotel - £55 Amount spent - £55.64 including a half tank of petrol the night before Day 2 - Sunday 7.00am- I had set an alarm this morning, as I have a bit to do, and I want to pre-empt any wee needs as we are 2 floors up in the hotel. He’s also had loads of water as it’s boiling. I didn’t get the best night sleep unfortunately which is a shame as the bed is amazingly comfortable. The room was unfortunately just super hot, nothing they could do as it’s been a heat wave. I’ve also never stayed away with M before except with family and he was hot and unsettled. So I had the window open, but all the young lads from Kingussie unfortunately decided to congregate under our window, playing their music from the car speakers making him quite understandably stressed. So I throw on last nights clothes and we go for a quick walk, then I come back up and shower, make coffee and pack the million things I seem to have brought up to the room. Not easy to travel light with a dog. I would have liked to have had breakfast here, but the hotel and both coffee shops in the village don’t open until 9, and I need to be on the road. So I just eat a muesli bar from the car and we head off towards Aviemore. Unfortunately my car sat nav gets me hugely lost, and keeps trying to send me down down gravel tracks to get on the A9 which surprise surprise don’t lead me onto a massive dual carriageway... I end up back tracking all the way I came as I had no phone signal to double check. Turns out I should have just carried on a few more miles. Puts me a bit behind schedule. 9.30am - I park the car at the air bnb that I booked, quickly pack a day rucksack and we frog-march down to the train station, as today, we’re going on a steam train. M’s first time on a train. I collect the tickets (£16.25 + £1 for M) and find our table. They have sold only half of the tables for social distancing and it’s really well organised. We choo choo off. It’s very picturesque, but mostly fields etc but still a worthwhile little outing. M isn’t quite as interested and goes to sleep. We get out at the first stop as I want to split my ticket, so I get a reservation for the later train back. They sort this for me (again everyone is super friendly) so I jump back on again. At the terminus I get out again for some photos and a leg stretch. 12.00pm - Back at the Boat Of Garten stop we gather our things and get off, as we have a reservation at the Boat inn for lunch. I order a pint of cider, and a sandwich and chips. We just hang out here for a while, well ages really as our train back isn’t until 3.30pm, unfortunately the middle train of the day got cancelled with Covid. About half way through I get a bit peckish again and order a sticky toffee pud and a glass of rose. I pay the bill which comes to £36.25. It’s coming up for our return train time so we wander back to the station, and not long after the train arrives. 3.30pm - We board and chug our noisy way back to Aviemore station, where I have a quick wee and then we walk the 30 mins back up to our air bnb to check in. I booked a tiny house just outside of Aviemore, and it’s ideal.. The lady who owns and runs it (it’s in her garden) has broken her elbow, but her Mum is there looking after her and they both show me around and make a fuss of M. I have a quick shower, and we both just chill out for a bit as we are exhausted. I decide not to go out tonight. It’s been a long couple of days, so I think fish and chips, a glass of wine and Netflix is on the cards. As I’m just about to head out the owner lets her dog in the garden and they have a fab 20 min play whilst I chat to Karen who is truly lovely. 7pm - I nip to the Co-op where I pick up a bottle of wine, and a pack of hot cross buns and some utterly butterly for the next 2 mornings breakfasts which costs £9.30, and then I order Haddock and chips for me, and a sausage for Max, £11.05. I head back to the cabin, get in my PJ’s, and just have a lovely chill. The cabin is amazing as night time wee’s can be achieved by just opening the door into the garden, shame I’m only here 2 nights. Write my trippie, and sleep like the dead. Miles travelled in a car - should have been 15 but was actually more like 30 Miles travelled on a train - 20 Accommodation - £75 Amount spent - £73.95 Day 3 - Monday 6.00am - I wake up early so I nip to the toilet and then am just able to open the cabin door to the garden, and M can sort himself out which is just so easy. I take my medication then we both get back into (our separate) beds for a bit and fall back asleep. I wake up at about 8.30am to a snoring dog. I pop the kettle on, make myself a coffee then toast 2 hot cross buns for breakfast, setting off the smoke alarm in the process. Both fully breakfasted I pack a bag, load the car and we’re off to Loch Morlich. 10am - I find the right car park after a couple of bodged attempts, and scrape together the £1.50 car parking charge. I get a leaflet with a map (just worth pointing out I’m fair terrible with maps) and set off towards the beach. Well Mr water baby practically drags me in when he sees the loch. After a couple of false starts, me going the wrong way, then me following the wrong colour signs, and a brief occasion where M may have decided to join some kayakers, we get on the right trail, we are going to walk all the way round the Loch, about 6km. It’s quite warm, and very midgey but stunningly beautiful and we don’t see anyone for the first half until we start to come across people who are doing shorter walks from the other way. Towards the end we cross a bridge and I lose my path altogether, I know I’m not right but I am right next to the loch and can see where I need to go, so I just clip him on the lead and we follow the road. Later on I see where I need to be; the path is elevated on the other side of the road, but I decide scrambling up verges next to busy roads isn’t overly sensible. We make it back to the beach, let the boy have one last swim, then head back to the car where much towelling is done, as well as a bit of pre lunch damage control with wet wipes and a clean t-shirt for me. 12.30pm -Our lunch stop is the Old Bridge Inn, and so I park up and we wander in. It’s a beautiful old pub, and it’s Monday today and the UK govt eat out to help out scheme and so it’s 50% off. I order a cheese board which comes and is absolutely fab (but why do they never give you enough crackers) and a pint of cider. I have a little nose popping up to see if there is any cheese going spare. I eventually catch someone’s eye and ordered a piece of cheesecake. This comes with sorbet which makes me really happy as I love sorbet (and can’t eat ice cream). I get the bill which comes to a mere £11.90. This Eat out to help out is really going to help me stay within budget. 2.00pm - Back in the car, we drive back up the road to the home of the Cairngorm reindeer herd. The hill walk is one of the things I would have loved to do (I did it in 2008 though) but obviously no dogs are allowed, and due to Covid the little paddocks with a few to pat and snap are closed. I drive up regardless though just to see if I can spot one from a distance. Unfortunately no luck, so I head all the way back through Aviemore where I stop at the Cairngorm Brewery to choose some beers for DH as a gift. I debate dropping the car and going out for a drink, but M can barely keep his eyes open, and so I nip to the Co-op for a cold bottle of Prosecco. I still do have a couple of half bottles of wine, but neither are cold, so I’ll drink them later in the trip when I get a fridge or a bar with ice I can pinch. 4.00pm I just have a shower, get in bed for a bit, have a glass of Prosecco, message D and write my notes. 6.00pm - After a bit of a chill out, I get dressed, sort a few bits out then we wander out and into the village. On the way past we stop at a stone circle I spotted on google maps, pretty funky and right in the middle of a residential area. We get to our dinner reservation half an hour early, but they kindly seat me anyway, but just say I can’t order food until my reservation time which is no problem. It is super busy and it takes a while to get a drink, but I just read my book. I decide on a smokey chilli chicken pizza and skin on fries, and it comes and it’s massive! Also very spicy but really tasty, can’t complain at all. Total including 2 glasses of wine was £20.75, an absolute bargain. I love this eat out to help out business! 8.00pm - We wander back to our little cabin. Pj’s and a chill out in bed, we’re moving on tomorrow and it’s an early start so to sleep for both of us.. a lovely day and I’m so glad to have seen Aviemore again, but I’m excited to move on and see some more new places. Miles travelled in a car - 15 Accommodation - £75 Amount spent - £51.35 Day 4 - Tuesday 7.00am - When the alarm goes off I snooze a couple of times, then start the process of showering and getting dressed whilst trying to make coffee and breakfast, pack and sort Mout all at once. I wash the dishes, then load the car, and off we go. Our first stop today is Dochgarroch lock, as we are going on a Loch Ness cruise. 9.00am - We make cracking time which is good as it did take me a little longer than expected to get everything in the car. We pass road signs highlighting a yellow weather warning for heavy rain (hello Britain) so I pack both our rain coats just in case. The boat is ready for us, so we wander on and sit outside at the back so I don’t have to wear a mask for 2 hours. 9.30am - We set off, chugging slowly down the canal, past the smallest lighthouse in Britain, and then when we enter Loch Ness we really pick up speed, charging right down the centre. No rain yet, in actual fact it’s very sunny so I keep swapping seats to try and get shade for us both, as stupid Mummy remembered his water bottle, but not his bowl to drink from. Yesterday when I went to the brewery, I completely forgot to pick up a beer or two for my best friends birthday, so when I see the Loch Ness lagers on the bar onboard, I buy 2. £9.20 which serves me right for not being smarter yesterday as they are double the cost. We pootle past Urquhart castle which I have visited myself back in the day, and I get some photos as they turn the boat round for us all to see. A lady is on board who is a single Mum with 2 kids (at least one special needs) and 3 chocolate Labradors. She managed to remember a water bowl though (what a human being) and she sends her little girl over to offer M water. I feel like my dog is quite rightly judging my parenting skills at this point as he pointedly drinks up like he’s not been offered water in days. We start to head back up the canal, and I must say I’ve really enjoyed it. Well worth it. 11.00am - Get back to the car and the first stop is filling the car up with Diesel. This comes to £45.47 but I buy a meal deal for £4.95 too as I’m getting hungry. Quick wee stop then I’m on the road, this is my first actual section of the NC500. First stop is Dornoch Beach. I park up for free and give M a real treat, a swim in the sea. I’m a bit nervous as it’s busier than expected but he’s completely excellent and charges around like a loon, but comes back to me with no issue at all. Much towelling and cold drinks for both of us, then back in the car. I’m looking for the stone remembering the last witch execution in 1727, it’s now in someone’s garden, but I find it. 1pm - On the road again we go, this time just to the outside of Dunrobin castle. I would definitely have paid to enter here and see the falconry display, but it’s not dog friendly. So I just take a photo and have a nosy, then it’s north again. This time it’s a quick stop at Cairn Liath, an old stone Broch. This is fabulous, we have to cross the A9 on foot which is a little hairy, but so worth it. I can let M off and we both have a good nosy around. 3.00pm - My last stop is a museum called the Timespan museum which I have read you can take dogs into. Unfortunately it’s closed though, so we decide just to push onto Wick where we are staying tonight. The roads get incredibly hilly, and I see my first Highland coo... you just wouldn’t imagine here you are anywhere near a big town, but then all of a sudden, a lidl, a retail park, and a town, with a wetherspoons 4.30pm -Find the hotel and check in, super friendly again. And I have a massive room on the ground floor near an exit to the car park, so incredibly thoughtful. The bed is huge too. I decide to go for a walk through town, I snap a photo of the world’s shortest street. And then I hunt down the Wetherspoons. I sit outside with M and order a pint of strongbow on the app. Absolutely ideal because I don’t even need to go inside to order and therefore leave him. I then realise I can order bar snacks from the app too, I even get 50% off my peanuts. If I’m honest, if i had known i could eat outside, and that it would be dry I would have eaten here tonight, but it is undoubtedly better to give the money to the independents after all. I stay here rather longer than expected, mostly because I realise my watch has not quite stopped but gone very slow. I spend under a tenner here including buying a bag of crisps for the car tomorrow. 7pm - Back to the room and I shower and get changed, feed M then wander to the hotel dining room. I’m eating in the residents lounge so I can keep M with me. To be honest with you, I think he’d prefer to be in the room in bed, but the hotel is packed with people coming past, and I’m worried he’ll bark if he gets startled so I keep him with me and he goes to sleep on the carpet. Then starts flirting with the Scottish ladies visiting. I order a wine, mozzarella sticks and chicken jalfrezi which are quite nice. This costs £20.50. I ring D, write my notes, then head to bed. It’s been a busy day, but a really good one.. Mikes travelled in a car - 149 Accommodation - £86.95 Amount spent -£91.48 but I have plenty of budget left from prior days to chip into the petrol Day 5 - Wednesday 8am- Waking up I take the boss out for a quick wee, then head back to the room. Breakfast for him and shower for me. This hotel has been absolutely ideal, the only negative for me is that the walls and ceilings were paper thin, and I think the other guests of the hotel found the Wetherspoons too. This made M a bit unsettled as it was pitch black by this time and quite noisy, so I had to sleep the first part of the night with my foot in his bed to keep him calm. But then all went quiet and we had a lovely night sleep. The bed was amazing. We have breakfast in the residents lounge, which was great, and they even bring M a sausage. 9.30am - Then it’s time to check out, we’ve been very leisurely this morning because a couple of the first suggested stops are here in Wick, but don’t open until 10. I first head in the car to the Old Pulteney whisky distillery to look at souvenirs for D. The weather this morning is overcast to say the least, and I drive through some very industrial type areas. The town has a very different look and feel to it than yesterday strangely. I arrive and the smell of the whisky greets me, but unfortunately also does a sign saying they were closed. I snap a photo then off we go. Next is the Wick Heritage museum. I arrive at 10.04am to a big closed sign on the door. I decide to sit it out for a minute, and a lady does arrive and go through the door about 10.10am, but despite sitting it out for a while, the door remains shut with the big closed sign on the door. I know these places are small, but I wish they had updated their website/social media as I had got the impression they would be open. I won’t be deterred at my next stop though, Tesco petrol station, I only need just over a tenner, but it’s really cheap so decide to top the tank up and it’s on to John O’Groats. I’m glad we didn’t stay here the night, but it was a great little stop. Thankfully most things are open, so I head into the little Brewery and get D 3 local beers from the brewery in the village £10.50, then grab myself a coffee for the car, £2.90. 11.30am - It’s then onto Duncansby head lighthouse. And a bit of a walk over the field to the sea stacks. I really enjoyed it here too. The Castle of Mey is my next stop, this once used to be owned by the Queen mother and apparently has lovely gardens. I was hoping to be able to nip in like Dunrobin yesterday for a quick mooch and a photo, but they are only letting people in with pre-booked gardens tickets. They are super friendly though and point out where on the road I can get a quick photo. Then it’s onwards and upwards again. I follow the signs then for Dunnet Head. This is the most furtherly north place in the UK (not actually John O’Groats). This was a longish single track road to get there, and again there is a lighthouse, and viewpoints over to the Orkney islands. Again very worth the trip up and Max enjoys the walk around. Good practice for the single track roads too. 1.30pm -Back down the long winding track and it’s the Dunnet Bay gin distillery next. I don’t drink gin either, but my husband and best friend do, so I nip in and buy them some souvenirs £19.50. I’m desperate for a wee at this point, and the lady from the gin shop points me next door to hotel where they have outdoor toilets they don’t mind people using. I notice a really busy eating area, and a quick google later and they are doing eat out to help out. It’s nearly 2pm by this point, and I’m hungry, so I grab Max and sit outside. I order a lime and soda and some mac and cheese. This turns out to be a great idea, as I don’t really see anywhere else to stop on the way, it’s also delicious and costs me a whole £6.48. I spy a sign for a beach, and the boy has been so good, we go for a walk on Dunnet Bay Beach. This is absolutely stunning, and we both absolutely love it. Well I do until he brings me a present of half a dead fish. 3.30pm - Onto our destination for the evening, the village of Tongue. It doesn’t look that far, but the roads quickly become single track, very hilly and winding, and this time there are HGV’s rumbling past. I have to be honest I find it fairly traumatic, and don’t really get to take in the very stunning scenery for trying to avoid sheep who are napping in the passing places! I really wish I had stopped to photograph the roads. Truly beautiful but I didn’t half wish D was here. But I make it in one piece, with a rather big sigh of relief. I unclench my hands, and check into my room, it’s a single which is no problem, in fact the bathroom is bigger than the bedroom strangely. They have left me a complementary bottle of wine though which is a nice touch (I pack this for another night) I have a cool shower and just chill out for an hour or so with my book. It’s very warm, and incredibly midgey, I must have about 50 bites on me, but the bed is comfy. We go down and I order dinner, onion bhaji’s followed by lamb shank. The food is a little expensive, but absolutely lovely. I’m quite tired, so I take M out for a very quick walk round the village, then we head back upstairs. I think I have a lot of single track driving to do in the morning, so I have an early night watching MAFS Australia in bed. I think the older I get the earlier my bedtimes do 😂 It’s been a really good day despite a couple of closure early on. Miles travelled in a car - 95 Accommodation - £60 Amount spent £79.50 Day 6 - Thursday 7.30am - I wake up to my alarm. Both of us slept really well. Think M is getting used to hotels now. It’s fairly wet, wild and windy this morning, but my weather app tells me it should be fairly short lived. For today anyway. Usual dog wee, shower, and packing up of our worldly possessions. 8.30am - I go down for breakfast, having packed the dog bed in the car, to find that I can’t have him with me for breakfast. I decide as it’s cool the car is the safer option, but I rush through breakfast as quickly as I can. I sneak a couple of bits out in a napkin to the car for him, then I pack up and check out. 9am - We drive for the first hour on single track roads, stunningly beautiful again but thankfully quieter so I build confidence a bit. I soon figure out the best way for me to slot in behind someone at a safe distance and almost take a tow. That way they make the call to go or stop, and I just follow. It takes me an hour to do 28 miles, but I’m happy enough pootling along. In fact my first tow is a campervan doing 30, but then I progress later to a VW Sirvocco doing 40, go me... 10am - Our first stop today was Smoo Cave, well what a fab stop, and I’m even able to let the little monster have a swim. It’s stunningly beautiful, and well worth the 10 minute walk back up and down. It has got very very warm, completely different to how it looked this morning when I got up. 11am - Only a few miles away was the Balnakeil craft village. I make a pit stop first at the famous Cocoa Mountain, where I get a coffee which comes with 4 chocolates for £5.95. I was going to buy D some chocolates to take home from here, but they are £1 a chocolate, and I’m worried they’ll end up in a soggy mess by the time I get home as it’s warmer than expected. So I just sit in the sun with my coffee for a bit have a quick nosy in one of the shops, but I’m no good in a mask, so I head back to the car and get on my way. 12pm- I snap some photos of the famous Kylesku bridge, then carry on, I miss the sign for the Rock shop which is recommended, this is possibly because it may be closed, and decide to do the optional detour to Lochinver. This wasn’t the best call. It’s 11 miles which does take about 20 minutes each way, and I head to the pottery shop. Well it’s all stunning, but at over £35 for a mug, it isn’t the souvenir shop for me. I haven’t had any lunch, so I stop at the Lochinver larder, a famous pie shop. Well all I want to do is buy a takeaway pie for lunch, but after 10 minutes in the queue which is just to pay, and seeing that no one who has ordered since I’ve arrived has got their lunch, I give up, I don’t want to leave M in the car for any longer. Luckily I have a spare pack of crisps and some haribo in the car. 2pm - Continuing on towards Ullapool which is my stop for the night, I spy the sign for the ruins of Ardvreck castle. Well this is a great stop and cheers us both up. He gets to swim, and I walk and clear my head. It is so beautiful, and we both really enjoy it. Not long after another sign for the Knockan Crag geological reserve. We enjoyed this too and walk the loop above the car park reading the signs and looking at the exhibits. 4pm - Not far from here to Ullapool, so we bundle back in the car and check in. It’s motel style, and can park straight outside the door, much easier for lugging our stuff in and out. Accommodation options in Ullapool weren’t cheap, this cost £95 for the room, and is 20 mins walk from the village, but it serves food and they are very nice, if a little Covid stressed. 4.30pm - We decide to follow their route to the village to give M a good walk. Ullapool is smaller than expected, but it’s very rugged and picturesque. We have a quick drink in the Seaforth inn £7, but then the bad weather is clearly coming in, and it starts raining, I’ve come out in flip flops, and a t-shirt, so not the most sensible, but it was sunny when I left half an hour ago. We nip into the Ferry Boat inn who kindly offer us a 30 min rain respite before their table bookings, and that’s all it takes. It’s sunny again. £5.50 for a glass of wine. 7pm - We wander back up the hill and order some food, goats cheese to start which is really tasty, and pepperoni pizza which is lovely but could do with 5 more mins in the oven. The owners are lovely, and we have a good chat; then it’s time for bed. Chat to D, tv, book and bed. Miles travelled in a car - 104 Accommodation - £95 Amount spent - £61 Day 7 - Friday 7.30am - I wake up just before my alarm. Didn’t hear a peep out of the hound last night. He’s definitely now a hotel kinda dog. Pack everything up which is so much easier with the car parked right outside. Then I drive round for breakfast. I’m not really hungry but I do my best. 9.00am - I nip to Tesco to get some car snacks and a birthday card for my niece, £8.80, then join the queue for the petrol station on the way out of the village. I decide to fill up just in case which comes to £21.23. We set off, and our first stop is the Corrieshalloch gorge which has an incredible suspension bridge. We have a wander about and snap some photos, then back to the car for us. 11am - It’s then a detour to Mellon Udringle beach, this is up a single track road, I start to wonder if I have gone wrong, but I get there and it’s beautiful. M charges around and swims for ages. I had noticed a field of sheep when we arrived, but what I stupidly hadn’t noticed was the field had no fences. I turned round and M was nose to nose with a rather large ram with horns bigger than me. They were just looking at each other. I screeched and grabbed him quick and we toddle back off to the car and back on the road. There are some famous gardens at Inverewe which sound fab, but we can’t take dogs in so we didn’t stop. 1pm - About a mile or two before the village of Gairloch I hear some funny noises (followed by a funny smell) from the back seat. I quickly turn round and see a sea of vomit. Now anyone who knows me knows that I can deal with all the poo in the world, but I’m terrible with vomit. I think it’s a belly full of sea water as normally he has a gut of iron. I quickly find a petrol station and pull in, finding somewhere to tie poor M up I try to deal with the back seat. I throw the towel straight in the bin which caught most of it, but it’s everywhere and he clearly is feeling really poorly and I can’t set off yet. Leaving him tied up in the shade with some water I take the opportunity to jet wash the car as it’s covered in bird poo and he eats his body weight in grass, then throws it all back up again. Feeling safe enough to set off, we literally make it to the next parking stop, and we limp on like this for some time. We get to the Victoria falls car park, and a short walk seems to do him a bit of good. The falls are lovely, but it’s very very midgey. 3pm - A little further on we reach the shores of Loch Maree. It’s a lot less midgey here, so I sit on a rock next to the car, and he just potters about eating grass and paddling his feet in the water, and he seems to be a bit better. So we set off properly again. We reach Torridon and decide not to stop for a drink, but plod on. The roads get very narrow but it’s incredibly beautiful. 4.30pm -Arriving at our destination for the night, Lochcarron, I have a drive through the village, then head off to a tartan shop called Lochcarron weavers. I was looking for cushions or maybe a rug, but I end up buying DH a lovely woollen jumper that’s on sale at £40, guessed the sizes so fingers crossed. I decide to leave the ruins of Strome castle for the morning, so we drive back to the Loch, and I spot a fish and chip van. I’ve had no lunch with vomit gate, so I just get a portion of chips, and I eat them on a bench looking out over the Loch, but then the rain starts so we go check in. Now I must say the reviews of this place were terrible. But it was cheap, dog friendly and right where we needed to be, so I decided to take it with a pinch of salt. I’m glad I did, the room does look a little dated, but it’s clean, very friendly and I’m on the ground floor. My room in Ullapool last night was dated too but cost £95, today was £55. I give him some water and a nap (but no tea as yet which causes some consternation) then we wander next door to the barestaurant when he has had a good rest. 6pm - The food looks fab. An older lady with her son orders the special of ribs, and I’m sold. I order a leek and goats cheese tart followed by the ribs, the food is a little dear, the starter alone is £9, but we are very remote and it is very tasty. I would normally have had a helper with the ribs, but I didn’t dare, so I got a lot of incredulous puppy stares. Instead a tiny portion of dry dog biscuits for him, and a glass of wine for me from the car, and an early night again. Miles travelled in a car - 130 Accommodation - £55 Amount spent - £73.93 Day 8 - Saturday 5am - I wake up in the pitch black to the unmistakeable sound of retching. Jump up, put the lights on and there are 3 piles to deal with.. thankfully just undigested grass really, and I have my handy wet wipes so we have it cleaned up in no time, and I decide to take him out to see if he needs a wee or anything whilst I’m awake. We just have a quick walk along the water front, being careful not to get locked out of the hotel, then back in and it’s back to bed for both of us. 8am - Getting up again and the monster seems to be feeling much better. We go next door for breakfast, but I just have a yoghurt and a croissant. It was lovely though. I really enjoyed this hotel, it was friendly, laid back and right on the route. I pack up the room, and give M a third of his normal breakfast (which he wolfs down) and we get in the car. 9.30am - We head just up the road for now to the ruins of Strome castle. I can’t let him off the lead here because there are lots of sheep, but it’s a great little stop for a walk around. It starts to rain but only quite lightly at this stage. 10am - He seems ok so we get on the road towards Inverness and eventually home (tomorrow). I must admit I had very serious thoughts of trying to just head home, both yesterday and at 5am, but I’m very far from home, nearly a 9 hour drive, and as such I think it would be better to stop regularly to offer him water and fresh air, rather than trying to push through. I have a quick call with D who reminds me that dogs eat things they shouldn’t all the time and to stop worrying, he’s eating, drinking and toileting normally and so to carry on but just not over feed him and offer him regular breaks. So our next stop is the Glen Dougherty look out, which is apparently stunning on a clear day but it wasn’t a clear day. So just a quick look about and off we go again. Nice for a photo and a leg stretch though. 11am - Last stop for us on the NC500 route is Rogie Falls. This is a great stop and walk down to the waterfalls. Apparently at the right time of year you can see salmon jumping up the falls, but it wasn’t to be today, this stop was incredibly busy, the car park was completely full and I had to wait a while to get parked, but it was a lovely walk and we both really enjoyed it. 12pm -Not long after this we reach Inverness and leave the NC500 route, we’re a little early to head to Pitlochry which is our stop for the night, so I do a couple of things, firstly grab a quick drive through McDonald’s for lunch £8.80, then fill up the car at the Tesco petrol station which comes to £19.87. 1.30pm - It’s only 90 mins to Pitlochry from here. And so I think I’ll be a little early really, so I head to Culloden battlefield for a walk around. Well unfortunately the heavens just open, and we are both completely drowned. Rather rudely I felt M wasn’t over interested in the Jacobites. But we have a very quick walk round, and then a towel off and on the road. I tell him I’ll put Outlander on for him when we get home. I’m actually very interested in history but I have been to the visitor centre before (and read and the watched the Outlander series which I’m sure is super accurate ). 4pm - We hit Pitlochry. I can’t get into the hotel car park, but I find street parking and check in nearby. This place is quite fancy, it’s in the same chain as the lunch I had on the steam train right at the beginning. Here it’s sort of a fancy gastro pub with rooms upstairs. This was the costliest of my accommodation at £99 but also the nicest. My heart does sink a bit though when I see where my room is. Sort of up two flights of stairs and round a lot of corridors and through several fire doors. I really hope we don’t need 5am dashes tonight. It’s nice to have a bit of luxury though too, most of my accommodation has been fairly basic, not even offering toiletries or tea/coffee in all cases. So this room with it’s very fancy toiletries and biscuits is very welcome. 5pm - We chill out for a bit, and I even nod off for 15 mins which is incredibly unlike me. Then we have a quick walk through the town, which looks lovely, and then head into our hotel/pub for dinner. I order the spaghetti carbonara with garlic bread. It’s lovely but very big, and I only manage half, but I did have lunch today. 8pm -We go for a last walk through the town, I contemplate an outdoor drink at a different pub, but I can’t find a table, so I have a glass of car wine, call DH, and watch Indian Matchmaking on Netflix. Miles travelled in a car - 147 Accommodation - £99 Amount spent - £78 Day 9 - Sunday 8am - I wake up, and the boy has slept like a log. It really was a lovely room. I get up and he seems in no rush to leave his bed, so I quickly shower and pack and we head down the maze together. I take him for a wee and load the car. And then we pop in through the front door for breakfast. They kindly serve me brekkie in the bar so I can keep M with me. I order a couple of hot items, and they bring Lorne sausage which I’m not sure about so I risk sneaking a bit to M who thankfully seems back to normal. 9am - We jump in the car, and get on the road. We are going home today, but stopping at Glasgow to see my little brother. I stop at a Starbucks just outside Perth for a coffee (£10 loaded on my app), then arrive just before 11 to Pollok country park. Unfortunately it’s really very rainy, but I find my brother (A) who is 21 and just finishing up his time at uni, loan him my brolly, and put rain coats on both M and myself. We walk for over 2 hours, just chatting and getting lost. Most of the walk is spent trying to find the Highland Cows I drove past on the way in, and we do finally succeed. M absolutely loves it, and doesn’t stop running around and sniffing everything in sight. Eventually we decide to call it a day as I’m a way away from home. I drop A off at the Asda, pick up a quick Maccy’s for the car £8.40 and we head home. We end up doing it in one go (about 3.5 hours) as M was completely zonked out on the back seat. DH phones and we chat for ages, then with about 45 mins to go, we hang up and he says he’ll see me at home. I get in, to no DH. I unpack his gifts and finally give him a ring. Turns out there has been a terrible shock as his Dad had a heart attack whilst out shopping. Thankfully all is ok, but DH gets home a bit ashen, and we go round to his Mum’s to await seeing how his surgery goes, which thankfully is all fine. D picks up an Indian takeaway on the way back from his Mum’s, he opens a beer from his gift pile, and we breathe a big sigh of relief. It’s super lovely to see him. Miles driven - 300 Amount spent - £18.40

2020.08.28 03:56 trianglechoke89Single dudes in Perth, how do you fare on online dating apps like Tinder, Bumble, Hinge etc.?
It's always interesting reading about the average man's struggles on these swipe apps in terms of getting matches, dates etc. However I feel a lot of it is location dependant. One guy bragging about having a shit tonne of success in a big city like LA isn't really comparable to someone living in a backwater town in the Aussie outback. So if we say P-Town specific, how does it fare for single Perth men?
2020.08.17 07:05 witchofheavyjapaesthCar cranks but won't fire after short 10-15 minute trips, Toyota 5S-FE
Car is a 1994 Toyota Celica ZR, 2D LIFTBACK 2.2L INLINE 4 5 SP MANUAL TLDR; Car cranking absolutely fine but takes multiple tries/minutes to fire after very short trips. Still driving fine otherwise when it does start. Has had similar issues with ignition in past but was resolved with ECU replacement a year ago. Thinking it may be fuel related and will be looking for a new fuel pump and taking it to RAC etc, but want advice I will go into some more detail than presented in the title, please note I'm in Australia (Perth specifically) and so all dates are dd/mm/yy! I just wanted to apologize in advance for the length of the post and the level of detail, I'm just trying to be as specific as possible to hopefully get the best help! I have included this imgur link to pictures of the engine bay as well as invoices for various parts being replaced etc. Here is a list of incidences that the car has had these past few weeks in regards to this starting issue: Two weeks ago on 07/08/2020, Friday, took the car to a Subway approximately 3.4km away (around a 7-10 minute drive). I parked the car, turned it off, and waited in it while my brother picked up lunch. He was probably gone for about 10 minutes, so the car was off for 10 minutes. When I noticed him coming back to the parking lot I turned the key to on to start the car, it cranked normally (as in there was no odd/missing sounds or lights etc), however it cranked abnormally long before firing (it generally cranks within a few seconds, this took probably around 20 seconds at least, possibly more. It was long, basically). However it fired and drove home no probs. Last week on 20/08/2020, Thursday, I took the car to the same Subway. Parked, turned car off, probably spent 15 minutes in the store to eat, came back to car. This time when I tried to start the car it didn't fire. I tried gassing the peddle, turning the car fully off then waiting a little bit then trying to turn it on again, and finally we popped the hood to see wtf was going on. My SO checked the connections on the distrib and spark plugs (gave them a little poke). I went to try to start it again so he could see what was happening/listen out for anything, except it suddenly fired no issue and started 100% normally. Overall it took about 5(?) attempts to turn it on and about 3 minutes I would guess. By this point I had noticed it was misbehaving only on short trips with short times so I purposely took it on one to test this theory. On 21/08/2020, I took the car to a HJ's approx. 3.3km away, takes about 10 mins to get to. Turned it off, went in for about 10 minutes, come back out. The car cranks but doesn't fire. I fuck around for 3 minutes in the cabin and just keep trying it, and after a couple of tries it fires no issue. We didn't open the bonnet this time. I took it on an hour long drive through the city afterwards and it was working fine and normal the entire time. finally this past weekend, I moved the car around on the driveway, turned it off for about 20 minutes, and then it started again fine to go to Bunnings. Left it running for about 5 mins before taking it to Bunnings (3.7km, ~15mins due to shit traffic), turned it off, went into Bunnings for about 10-15 mins, came back out and it started no issue. I haven't driven the car since the Bunnings trip. I am at a loss with it. Last year I drove it to Craigie (~35km, 40 mins away) to drop a friend off, I turned the car off and it didn't start back up so it was towed by RAC to a service centre where they replaced the distrib and spark plugs (27/05/2019). This didn't fix the issue however as a few months later it was slow to start, then later that week the engine simply turned off while I was driving it. It was once again towed to an RAC centre and it spent a month there before they finally nailed it down to the ECU and replaced it with a refurbed model on the 16/08/2019. There has not been a single other starting issue until now, almost an exact year later. And this issue is slightly different as well. Some asides: - I regularly drive the car to Craigie (~35km) or Mandurah (~70km) without any issues- The car idles steady - We regularly do minor services on it ourselves (oil changes and the likes), we are capable of doing more but space is the main issue as we don't have a garage yet :( - The car cranks absolutely normally, it doesn't seem like a battery/power issue (as in the battery isn't flat) - We have replaced: the ECU, timing belt, water pump, engine mounts, exhaust flexi joint, distributor, spark plugs, fuel filter, brake booster vacuum hose, radiator, battery, and the original Toyota immobilizesecurity system. - We haven't replaced anything else major in the engine bay/wiring harness. Sorry again about the length of the post, I really hope someone has any idea on what I can do. I am getting a bit exhausted dealing with the car but I love it and just want to be able to rely on it like I could before this month. I'll be booking it into the RAC again about this issue/for a vehicle inspection to find anything else but I wanted to start here! Thanks so much in advance!! I love this sub and it's a bit daunting posting here so please don't be too harsh. EDIT: Trying to format, not super savy at it on reddit desktop lol, and adding car make/model etc at the top (thanks automod) EDIT 2: Fuel pump is our best guess, forgot to mention that but u/chairshot125 comment reminded me and I figured I should add it! Also adding a TLDR thanks to them!

2020.06.30 21:49 DogoodologyNew Secondary Physical Science Teacher from USA Looking at Perth Area.
Hi! As the title says I'm a new secondary physical science teacher (Biology, Physics and Chemistry) from the United States looking at opportunities in the Perth area. I'm considered a non-traditional path to teaching in the US as I was in the military for several years then worked in politics, news and media for several years and currently run a global eco-conservation organization. I decided to go into teaching because I love the idea of working with kids and inspiring them to pursue their science dreams (total science geek). I'm also certified to teach basic Mandarin courses but I'm not sure that certification will transfer to AU or how language teachers in Australia go about getting endorsements. In the USA, I just needed to take and pass the national/state level endorsement test. Perth has always caught my eye as a place I've wanted to live for some reason but I've actually never even stepped foot in the country of Australia. I have lived overseas; Taiwan, the Philippines, Thailand, Colombia and the Galapagos islands. I'm used to TINY remote islands and villages. Not only am I interested in job outlook for a new science teacher in the Perth area but more importantly I am interested in lifestyle in the Perth area. I'm a 34 y/o, single, female who would like to have a family one day if possible, if not I see teaching as a way to be involved with kids. So looking for advice on lifestyle in the Perth area, dating scene (I know that's not teacher related), Cost of Living, areas to look at living, things to avoid, public vs private school systems (pros and cons). I'm active in the outdoors, love cycling and scuba diving, anything to do with water really. I'm open to suggestions of other areas in Australia as well but ideally would like to be near the ocean. Doesn't have to be a huge city, medium sized is fine and open to smaller towns if they have decent access to more populated areas. (Are cars expensive in Australia, initial costs, upkeep, registration, insurance?) I've got no debt, but also a small amount of savings (school is expensive in the US!). However, I am a military retiree/pensioner so I'll have an additional $31k AUS or so coming in annually. I have little to no possessions to move, as I am currently used to working overseas about 75% of the year. I've been looking at the school schedules and it looks like instead of one long break in the summer they do three breaks throughout the year. Can someone let me know how long those breaks are and how much time you actually have off or if you're just working on school prep the entire time. As I would like to be able to fly home once or twice a year to visit family and friends. Any advice, suggestions or warnings are greatly appreciated.
Looking for someone to take up my time, I’m single and have never dated. SoR in Perth but that doesn’t matter. I’m a 6’5 white guy with a medium build and black hair. Also can be alittle protective if that’s something that doesn’t bother you 💕 Would like to come out of this with a woman in my life hopefully making her as happy as ever. What are you waiting for let’s enjoy HMU!

In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music. As a touring act, Tame Impala consists of Parker (guitar, vocals), Dominic Simper (guitar, synthesiser), Jay Watson (synthesiser, vocals, guitar), Cam Avery (bass guitar, vocals), and Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals). The group has a close affiliation with fellow Australian psychedelic rock band Pond, sharing members and collaborators, including Nick Allbrook, formerly a live member of Tame Impala. Originally signed to Modular Recordings, Tame Impala is now signed to Interscope Records in the US, and Fiction Records in the UK. Parker originally conceived the project in Perth in 2007. After a series of singles and EPs, Tame Impala's debut studio album, Innerspeaker, was released in 2010; it was certified gold in Australia and well received by critics. Parker's 2012 follow-up, Lonerism, was also acclaimed, reaching platinum status in Australia and receiving a Grammy Award nomination for Best Alternative Music Album. Tame Impala's third album, Currents, was released in July 2015, and like its predecessor, it won ARIA Awards for Best Rock Album and Album of the Year. Parker won the APRA Award for Song of the Year 2016 for Currents' first track, "Let It Happen". The fourth and most recent studio album, The Slow Rush, was released 14 February 2020. Parker played in a number of bands, one being the Dee Dee Dums, a rock duo that consisted of Parker (guitar) and Luke Epstein (drums). Tame Impala emerged in 2007 as a Kevin Parker home-recording project in this period and he posted a number of tracks on Myspace. This brought interest from a number of labels and eventually, he signed a worldwide deal with the independent Modular Recordings in July 2008. To transfer these recordings to a live-stage, Parker enlisted the help of Dominic Simper (bass) and Jay Watson (drums) and began playing at some local gigs. 2008–2009: Tame Impala EP Tame Impala performing at the 2009 V Festival in Perth, Western Australia The signing was soon followed by the release of their self-titled EP in September 2008. It reached the number 1 position on the Australian Independent Record Labels (AIR) Chart and number 10 on the ARIA Physical Singles Chart, with three songs, "Desire Be, Desire Go", "Half Full Glass of Wine" and "Skeleton Tiger" receiving national radio airplay on the Triple J radio station. Tours in 2008 included supports for You Am I, The Black Keys, Yeasayer and MGMT, as well as performances at Southbound Festival, Meredith Music Festival and Falls Festival, and national headline tours in support of their EP. Tours in 2009 included a sold-out six-date "Skeleton Tiger" national headline tour and a five-date UK tour (including Nevereverland UK), as well as performances at V Festival and Groovin The Moo, and a stadium tour with The Living End and Gyroscope. Tame Impala appeared on Triple J's Hottest 100 list in 2008—their first appearance on the list—with "Half Full Glass of Wine" at number 75. The song is also on the Hottest 100 compilation album. 2009–2010: "Sundown Syndrome" Parker in April 2009 during a performance at Somerville Auditorium Tame Impala's first single, "Sundown Syndrome", was recorded at Toerag Studios in London, UK, with recording engineer Liam Watson, while the band was in the UK in March 2009. "Sundown Syndrome" was premiered by Richard Kingsmill on his "2009" show on Triple J on Sunday 10 May 2009. The song was released in July 2009 on vinyl, and digitally with a cover of "Remember Me" by DJ Blue Boy. The band then headlined the inaugural "Rottofest" in August 2009, an annual comedy, film and music festival held on Rottnest Island off the coast of Western Australia. Following Rottofest, they embarked on a national tour through September and October 2009 in support of the single. "Remember Me" appeared at number 78 on Triple J's Hottest 100 for 2009. "Sundown Syndrome" was included on the soundtrack of the Oscar-nominated film The Kids Are All Right. "Half Full Glass of Wine" was used in HBO's popular television series Entourage as the closing song for an episode. Tame Impala appeared at the Australian/New Zealand Big Day Out festival in early 2010, performing alongside bands such as Muse, The Mars Volta, Kasabian and Rise Against. 2010: Innerspeaker Main article: Innerspeaker Tame Impala performing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in June 2010 Tame Impala's debut album Innerspeaker was released on 21 May 2010. In the UK the official release date was 28 June, but iTunes accidentally made it available for purchase on 12 May. The album was released in the United States on 8 June to general and critical acclaim. Pitchfork named it Best New Music. In an interview with Triple J talking about the album's nomination for the J Award, Parker stated that they had secretly been recording a new album. "Jay and I have been recording pretty compulsively and album number two is nearing potential completion already and I'm so excited about it that I'm having trouble keeping myself from telling you all about it". This came only months after Innerspeaker was released. The group toured in mid-2010, commencing the Innerspeaker album tour on 13 May 2010 as the opening act for MGMT's 2010 American tour. The band returned to Australia to play at Splendour in the Grass festival, which was followed by a European Tour in July (including an appearance at the Reading Festival) and a national Australian tour in October. In November they returned to the UK and Europe for a fifteen date tour, including their largest London headline show to date which was attended by Noel Gallagher, Tom Meighan, Sergio Pizzorno, Noel Fielding, Alexa Chung and Alison Mosshart, the band then went on to the United States and Canada for twenty headline dates including sold-out shows in Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco. They also received four 2010 ARIA Music Awards nominations which include, "Album of the Year" and "Best Rock Album" for Innerspeaker, "Best Group" and also "Breakthrough Artist". On 29 November 2010, Innerspeaker won Australian youth-oriented radio network Triple J's highest honour, winning the J Award for Album of the Year. 2011–2014: Lonerism Main article: Lonerism Parker performing with Tame Impala in March 2011 Tame Impala's second album, Lonerism was released in 2012 and was produced by Dave Fridmann. Parker said that Lonerism "represents a departure from his previous work by incorporating an expanded sonic palette, more emotional song writing, and a more pronounced narrative perspective". It was created in a similar set up as Innerspeaker, whereby Parker wrote and recorded the majority of the album by himself at his girlfriend, Jivani Duke's, home in Perth, Australia. Parts of the recording also occurred in Parker's home studio in France. While in France, Parker produced and played on the self-titled dream pop album by Melody's Echo Chamber, the project of French singer Melody Prochet. As a result, one of the tracks on Lonerism is titled "Endors Toi", which roughly translates from French to English as "fall asleep". The album cover is a photo taken by Parker of the Jardin du Luxembourg in Paris, France, with additional editing by Leif Podhajsky, a graphic designer who created the album art for Innerspeaker. The image ties into the themes of isolation of Lonerism, with a metal gate separating the viewer from the people in the Gardens. The band released the song "Apocalypse Dreams" for free download on 7 July 2012. The first single "Elephant" was released in July 2012. The album was released on 5 October in Australia, 8 October in the United Kingdom and 9 October in the United States. StillinRock described it as the best album of the year. The album features the songs "Apocalypse Dreams" and "Elephant", which are some of the first songs that Parker has co-written with Watson. "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" was released as the second single. Tame Impala in October 2012 In November 2012, Lonerism won the 2012 J Award for Australian Album of the Year. It was the second time Tame Impala had won the award, after also winning it for their debut album Innerspeaker in 2010. They are the first band to win the J Award more than once. In January 2013, Lonerism was selected by Rolling Stone for the 2012 Album of the Year award after the band also won the award in 2011 for Innerspeaker. It was also announced as album of the year by UK magazine NME. Additionally, Lonerism was voted number one overall in Rolling Stone, Triple J, NME, Filter, Urban Outfitters, FasterLouder and Obscure Sound's 2012 Album of the Year polls. Lonerism became the first Australian album to win NME's album of the year. "Elephant" and "Feels Like We Only Go Backwards" appeared at number 7 and 9 respectively in Triple J's Hottest 100 for 2012. The band began an international tour in 2012 through 2013, supported by The Growl. During this tour, they played major festivals, such as Coachella, Sasquatch Festival, and appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. For this tour Watson switched from drums to keyboards and Parker recruited Julien Barbagallo on drums. In September 2012, Tame Impala's first U.S. feature appeared on the cover of the publication The FADER, in its 82nd issue. On 18 May 2013, it was announced via Facebook that Allbrook would leave the band to focus on other musical endeavours, and that Cam Avery of Pond and The Growl would take his place. Allbrook played his final gig with the band on their last Australian tour date of 2013 at Perth's Belvoir Amphitheatre, the same venue that Allbrook played his first gig with the band at in 2008. As a farewell gesture, the band played a cover of Outkast's "Prototype". Lonerism received a 2014 Grammy Award nomination in December 2013 in the Best Alternative Music Album category. 2015–2017: Currents Main article: Currents Cam Avery and Kevin Parker, performing with Tame Impala in June 2014 It is believed that Parker started recording the follow-up album to Lonerism at the beginning of 2014, due to various Instagram posts that showed recording taking place at Wave House in Western Australia, where the debut album Innerspeaker was recorded. Prior to this, Parker had been touring with Tame Impala and working on other musical projects, including his disco-funk band, AAA Aardvark Getdown Services. Parker said in May 2013: Right now, doing another album doesn't excite me. There's something narrow-minded about thinking an album is the only way you can put out music, especially in the world we’re in at the moment. Anything is possible. There's so many people doing interesting things with the internet and technology, there could be so many ways of making music and listening to it. It's 2013 and you can make music anywhere ... There are so many possibilities, my brain is overloading on them all. I just need to wait, think about things a bit more. Then I’ll know what to do next. In May 2014, Parker spoke of his growing inclination toward the recording of another album in a triple J radio interview, explaining that: "I'm getting more and more sucked into the world of making an album. It's weird how it happens naturally, it's almost feels like a seasonal thing. I've started to think about tracklistings and all the things that come with an album." Describing the sound of the new album, Parker said "I'm gonna try to make it a bit more minimal this time; only use what's needed ... instead of a supreme pizza, where you just throw everything on". Watson added: "[It’s] probably gonna be less rock again and more electronic again, even more than the last one". Parker later stated that the inspiration behind the new polished sound of Tame Impala's third album came from listening to a Fleetwood Mac song. He said that the pureness and cleanness of Fleetwood Mac's song prompted him to attempt to create a more streamlined musical style within Currents. Tame Impala performing at Lollapalooza in September 2015 On 6 January 2015, Spinning Top Music announced that a new Tame Impala album will be released in 2015. During the same month, it was announced that the band would perform at the Boston Calling Music Festival in May 2015. On 11 March 2015, a new song entitled "Let It Happen" was released as a free download. On 5 April 2015, Tame Impala announced and released the album cover for Currents in a Facebook post. A few hours later the band released the first official single from the upcoming album on Facebook called "'Cause I'm a Man". Later that month, on 22 April 2015, Tame Impala officially released "Let it Happen" as the second single from the album. One week later, on 29 April 2015, Kevin Parker held an AMA on reddit, where he provoked fans to ask him to release a new song, then responding with "Disciples", which became the first promotion single for the upcoming album Currents. On 7 May 2015, the band announced that the album would be released in 17 July 2015 and released the third official single, "Eventually". During the same 30 April 2015 reddit AMA, Parker said, "Up until recently, from all of Tame Impala's record sales outside of Australia I had received.... zero dollars. Someone high up spent the money before it got to me. I may never get that money." Tame Impala performing at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in August 2016 In October 2017, a Collector's Edition of Currents was announced. Released on 17 November, it included three B-sides and two remixes. 2018: Other projects By the end of 2017, Tame Impala announced that they agreed to play the 2018 Mad Cool musical concert in Spain, which would be the first live music show the band agreed to play in 2018. Tame Impala also played a headline set at London's Citadel Festival in July 2018. In July 2018, during an interview with Beats 1 anchor host Matt Wilkinson, Parker confirmed for the first time that he had begun working on a new Tame Impala album, adding that he was "ready to play some other songs live" and expressing an interest to headline a stage at Glastonbury Festival in 2019. He also stated that he would be "very disappointed" if the new record by Tame Impala wasn't released by summer 2019. On 1 July 2018, Tame Impala teamed up with artist ZHU to create the single "My Life". In October 2018, Parker played bass for rapper Travis Scott for a performance of "Skeletons/Astrothunder" on Saturday Night Live, with singer-songwriter John Mayer also part of the backing band. On 10 October, the band was scheduled to headline the first night of the annual Desert Daze festival in its new location in Moreno Beach, but had to cut their set short after three songs due to inclement weather. On 14 October, female R&B singer SZA released the single "Together" on YouTube, which is billed as "SZA featuring Tame Impala." Later that month, on 31 October, rapper Theophilus London released a new single in collaboration with Tame Impala under the moniker of Theo Impala. 2019–present: The Slow Rush Main article: The Slow Rush Tame Impala performing at Primavera Sound 2019 On 2 January 2019, Tame Impala was announced as a headliner for the 2019 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. They also headlined the 2020 Primavera Sound festival, making them only the second Australian act to do so. Around the same time, Parker announced that he expected to release a new album during that summer. The 2020 album is named The Slow Rush and features 12 tracks recorded in Los Angeles and in Parker's hometown of Fremantle, Australia. On 21 March, Tame Impala released the single "Patience", and has teased new music on Instagram for the forthcoming album. They were the musical guest for Saturday Night Live on 30 March, with host Sandra Oh. On the show, the band performed "Patience" and a new song, "Borderline", which was released 12 April. On 25 October, Tame Impala revealed the title of their fourth studio album, The Slow Rush. Three days later on 28 October, they released the song "It Might Be Time". On 3 December, Tame Impala released the single "Posthumous Forgiveness". The album was released on 14 February 2020. Josh Terry of Vice named Tame Impala his "Artist of the Decade" for the 2010s, writing, "No artist captured how genres cross-pollinated throughout the 2010s better than Tame Impala". He added: "In the age of streaming and the big-box festival bubble, Parker's discography seems factory-made for both a crowd of thousands and a chill night alone with a vibe-heavy playlist" and that "his music embodies the technology-driven sense of loneliness of this decade better than any of his peers". "The Less I Know the Better" was voted number one in Triple J's Hottest 100 of the Decade on 14 March 2020. This was the highest ranking for Tame Impala in a Hottest 100 Countdown and the first the project had attained number one in any Hottest 100 (the same song had previously placed fourth in the 2015 Hottest 100). On 20 March 2020, Parker appeared on The Weeknd's album After Hours, producing and providing background vocals on a track called "Repeat After Me (Interlude)". Musical style Parker's decision to make the music for Tame Impala in the studio by himself is a result of Parker liking "the kind of music that is the result of one person constructing an awesome symphony of sound. You can layer your own voice 700 times for half a second if you want, and I just love that kind of music". However, Parker has to translate his music to a live setting with the band, and the band doesn't play the songs until they have been recorded. "The only jamming that's done as a band is done a long time after the song is recorded for the sake of the live environment. It's good for us, because we can take a song that's been recorded and do what we want to it: slow it down, speed it up, make it 10 seconds or 10 minutes long. It gives us a lot of freedom." Some favoured and often-used effects by Parker include phasing, delay, reverb and fuzz. Experimentation with different effects pedals such as Roland RE-20 Space Echo, has led to Parker creating new and unique sounds. "If you make an effort to not put the pedals in the order you're meant to, then you'll end up with something new sounding. We don't have any things that we got from another planet or anything, it's the same things everyone else has used." "People have a distortion pedal and then a reverb pedal. A reverb is meant to make it sound like it's in a cathedral or something. If you put it the other way around, it won't sound like a guitar being played in a church, it'll sound like a church being stuffed inside a shoebox and then exploded. You can do different things just by treating things differently." Parker's process for making music is "I’ll have a sudden, spontaneous vision of a song, have all the parts mapped out in mind, and do my best to record it as quick as I can. I’ll find my eight-track and do a quick demo of just the riff, or a verse or a chorus. The song will go for like 30 seconds. I’ll have a whole bunch of them [demos] and then I’ll just choose which ones to make into full songs". Parker has a strong sense of melody in his music, having composed "excessively melodic music from about the age of 12 to 15". For Parker, the music comes before the lyrics, "I usually write the lyrics after the melody and its timing have been decided. But the words have to be meaningful. I try to synchronise certain words with the best parts of the melody, but it can be really difficult and does my head in. I like to keep the meaning pretty open and ambiguous so that it's not just me that gets something out of the lyrics. I usually write lyrics from a persona rather than tell a specific story." Parker also said "Usually I am sufficiently motivated to think of new songs everyday, but I usually forget them. I seem to get an emotional kick out of sensing feelings of general desperation or hopelessness, whether it's me or someone near me or someone in a movie or anything. It's really difficult to sit down and force yourself to write a song, and that forced nature usually comes out in the song so I just have to wait until they come to me." Influences Tame Impala's music and live visuals are heavily influenced by psychedelic music. Parker's music is heavily influenced by late 1960s and early 1970s psychedelic rock, which is achieved through various production methods. Parker said that he has a "fetish for extremely sugary pop music" from artists like Britney Spears and Kylie Minogue. Parker also loves "fucked-up explosive cosmic music" in the vein of The Flaming Lips, with whom Parker collaborated on the track "Children of the Moon" in 2012, for the release The Flaming Lips and Heady Fwends. Combining these two things, My Bloody Valentine have influenced Parker's music with their contrasting combination of loud guitars and ethereal melodies. Parker has "always been in love with the wall of sound as employed by My Bloody Valentine" and he tries to capture that "melancholy dreamy feel". Parker tries to incorporate this balance into his own music. "If I was singing, I wouldn't be able to match the tone of the instruments, which is really crunchy. The instruments are quite sonically brutal, but the voice is really soft, and I think that kind of resonates with people. It's kind of like My Bloody Valentine, where it's really brutal sounding, but kind of beautiful at the same time". Tame Impala live drummer Jay Watson has described Parker's music as containing "shoegazey guitar sound, but not played in a shoegazey manner". Electronic music is another influence. Parker has used rock instrumentation in an electronic manner, saying "The way we do music, it's organic, but it's meant to be quite repetitive and hypnotic, almost in a kind of electronic nature. Using our playing as though it was a living sample". A heavy feature on Innerspeaker is a pitch-shifted guitar tone that many mistook for a synth. Parker mentioned this by saying "I had a few obsessions when recording Innerspeaker. One was to make the guitars sound like synths and drums sound like drum samples and pretty much anything except guitars and drums. I'm obsessed with confusing people as to the origin of a sound." Parker was inspired to take up various creative endeavours at a young age, "I used to draw a lot when I was very young, and I used to get the most immense feeling of satisfaction from finishing a picture and looking back at it, even though I wasn't actually that good. When I started playing music I got the same feeling from making a song, even if it was just a few noises or drum patterns put together. It was all about the buzz from making something from nothing. Music always affected me greatly as a listener anyway, usually from listening to music in my dad's car or listening to him play guitar." Lo-fi music is also a favourite of Parker's, and he incorporated it heavily in the early days of Tame Impala, heard prominently on the Tame Impala EP. With the release of Innerspeaker, Parker went for a different approach to a lo-fi sound, aiming more for a more cosmic and sonic wall of sound, helped by mixer Dave Fridmann. Parker explained "It sounds more cohesive, like an organism. It has a different emotion to it, it brings out a different feeling when it's absolutely blaring at you. I love that sound." Parker has also stated that Supertramp, one of his favourite bands, are a major influence on the musical style of Tame Impala. Despite their difference in sound, he feels he is always somewhat "channeling Supertramp". He has said that listening to the Bee Gees on mushrooms inspired him to change the sound of the music he was making on Currents. 2020.06.07 18:55 charlimarli10I (18M) think I might have feelings for a close friend (17F) however I'm in a stable relationship with my girlfriend (18F)
Its long but its my story So I have a lifelong bestfriend (17M) we will call him mexico and mexico has been with a girl well call tonga (17F) for the past 2.5 years. I had strong feelings for tonga for a long period of time but was happy for both tonga and mexico and thought expressing them might make things awkward between us three. anyway I put those feelings behind me and over those 2.5 years become increasing close with tonga through school, interests etc. I was a very socially awkward person for a long time and I found that I could feel comfortable around her because she was interested in and good at the same stuff I was. The same can goes for mexico, where I find these people just get me in a way that others don't if that makes sense. Or maybe that's me just not willing to open up to others. Either way I value my relationships with both of them. So tonga, mexico and I are all part of the same friendship group - mainly consisting of guys - we'd all hang out together and have fun. We were all kind of still awkward around girls I guess or we'd never felt it necessary to force interaction with them so we were a bunch of single dudes chilling which was fun because we were all similar types of people. Anyway about six months ago mexico hosts this party and tonga invites a handful of girl contacts she had. One of which was Perth (18F) who eventually became my girlfriend to date. When i'm describing how we met I use the phrase 'we clicked' like she was so much fun to talk to and was really easy to get along with. She is my first serious partner and i was hers so it was fun to explore all these new things with her. Her friend group then meshed with ours and i think everyone felt happy and excited to meet new and different people, especially considering i think a lot of us aren't exactly the most social people but we have formed a really supportive group of people and that makes me feel great about it all. Perth is a lovely person and i couldn't fault her in any way. She is kind and compassionate and smart and we laugh and laugh and im always smiling with her. She is really easy going and we communicate really well i think to each other about our relationship. Coronavirus wasn't exactly fun when i was just starting to look forward to going out and doing stuff with perth but ah well its whatever. Tonga recently told me that after she got with mexico she tended to drift away from her other girl-girl relationships (not intentionally) after prioritising her relationship with mexico and because of this found herself relying on mexico alone for attention and love and didn't have a network of people around her that she felt close enough to to open up about things. Tonga thinks this put stress on their relationship. Anyway they recently had a fight and tonga came to me for emotional support (which she hadn't ever done before) and told me pretty much this paragraph. I told her I can be a friend she can vent to and express herself when she needed and tried to guide her to build stronger friendships with Perths group of female friends and tonga has said that talk really helped with her confidence and put her on a path to branching out and building other friendships she can have to support her and hearing that made me feel great about myself, that i could help someone who had a problem and put them in a mindset where they feel like they can see how to make things better. tonga came to me one more major time during isolation and said mexico was really struggling mentally and asked if i could talk to him. She said school was going to shit and he was getting all depressed and was about to start anti depressants. This all hit me pretty hard because i regarded mexico as a solid person who had places to be and thing to do. Tonga started crying when she told me and i kept it together myself for the time being but the next day i went to see perth and broke down in the car on the way there. because i was really scared about what could happen to mexico because i just didn't know. perth saw me crying in the car when i arrived and understandably was really concerned and didn't know what was going on. after i composed myself we went for a walk and i told her EVERYTHING. i told her stuff about how i felt and my concerns and worries that i had NEVER told anyone. she handled it well and offered lots of support and hugs. i told her about how i had feelings for tonga that i had sorta tucked away sorta not and that i was talking tonga trying to give advice and stuff and i think perth was a little worried about this but we talked about it and i reassured her she was my number one and that im telling her everything and not tonga. mexico and i have a night together and we get talking. mexico was taken back when he found out tonga had come to me because he said i was who'd he'd go to if he wanted to talk about something and he said he thought he was 'losing' my friendship to tonga. We don't talk about our feelings because we are guys or whatever and i never talked about my feelings to anyone but i expressed my concerns about him and his mental health and how i just want him to be happy. i felt a lot better after talking to him about it all but i felt less successful in getting to a solution than when i spoke with tonga about her problems. mexico really appreciated talking as well and said he doesn't talk about his feelings wholly with anyone, including tonga. tonga and i keep speaking every now and then and she told me i was her closest friend and i spoke with her about one of the chats with mexico where he said he is stuck in a deep hole but doesn't care about what happens to him and that really hurt me because it made me feel helpless and i just didn't know what to do. i broke down in front of tonga and she felt bad for dragging me into the issue with mexico but that she needed to speak about it and didn't have anyone else to go to. perth tells me tonga said tonga and mexico aren't going to last the next few months for various reasons. this frustrates me because they had been together for so long and i cared very much for both of them and just wanted everyone to be happy. i spoke with tonga about it and she said she didn't like that mexico didn't give her enough attention because he wasn't interested in her and tonga got jealous seeing mexico laugh and smile with another girl in a way he didn't seem to do with her anymore. tonga also commented on perths and my relationship and how its always smiles and laughs and fun and she wants that with mexico but hes not interested anymore which sucks but i guess that's life. tonga holds a party and we all get pretty drunk. tonga throws up and speaks with another friend whilst in tears and i saw this and offered to help with water etc. but it just bummed me out not seeing people have fun. perth is ballin and we have a great night all while tonga stays in the bathroom and then moves to the bedroom with friends. i check on them again and i end up lying with tonga on the bed alone while she tells me that she doesn't like how she feels mexico has moved on and doesn't care anymore. i hold her and mainly just listen and she tells me that she wants me to choose her over mexico. i think what that means is she needs a close friend that is closest with her because while tonga tells me im her closest friend ive always had mexico and now perth to turn to. i didn't know how to respond to that. i told her i had feelings for her for a long time and she said that is wasn't fair on perth if we did anything. i really liked tonga for a long time and i guess that just became normal and i guess the thing is im not sure what i want right now, Am i growing feelings for tonga? I'm not sure. Do i think about being with tonga? yes a lot sometimes Is there anything wrong with my relationship with perth right now? No things are great Do i think tonga has feelings for me? probably, fairly certain but im not 100% Does mexico know i have feelings for tonga? He knew i used to but i think he might suspect they are coming back Perth is a great person and id hate myself if i hurt her because she has done nothing wrong and we have so much fun together and i want to do right by her. i think tonga and mexico are going to have a rough couple of months ahead and they are likely to be seeking more support, mainly tonga though. mexico is going to be ok he just gets fed up with things sometimes. i just want everyone to be happy but that includes myself and i don't know what is going ot make me happiest i feel like i should maintain my relationship with perth and push away any feelings for tonga but offer support for her when she needs it and that's what ive done for a while now. alternatively i could follow my feelings and pursue a relationship with tonga. but that might harm my relationship with mexico and of course id lose perth and likely her friends as well also the possibility tonga didn't see me that way at and we stuff up our relationship altogether and then shes again got no close friends to go to and i will feel very awkward around my friend for a long while. i just don't know what to do or who to talk to because this involves all three of the closest people in my life right now and i fear i can really fuck it all up and lose them all. Do i think i will be happier with tonga? I don't know. I want to say no but i guess the reason im here is because i think i might be THANK YOU AND STAY HAPPY TLDR: In a stable relationship with current girlfriend (18F) but developing feelings for close friend (17F) who is about to break up with my best friend (17M). Should I reject feelings stay with my current girlfriend and just offer support as required or try and pursue a relationship with my close friend? I just dont want to lose my three best friends if i mess it up.
2020.06.04 15:10 perthguy999Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Gym
My wife and I are turning around our dead bedroom (about 9 months “fixed” with some work still to do). We are up to about 10 times a month (losing 9 to 10 days each month while she’s on her period), with her initiating 100% of the time. She wants us to ‘69’ and do it doggy style and have me finish across her neck and body, and while I’m sure this may be vanilla for many, coming from my children’s ministry serving, no sex before marriage, missionary position only, no-oral sex EVER wife it could not be more surprising! NONE of this is new advice. It is stuff I did and that I recommend but SO much of this is rehashed from other fantastic posts and comments, especially ‘Real stuff the HL can do about your dead bedroom’ by u/myexsparamour and the posts by u/DB_Helper, u/skyscan1, u/LostInAlaska and plenty of others. EDITED to addu/deadbedted the author of the wonderful LLitany (that I mention below). I must have read his post 100 times. I hate ‘The Talk’ as it’s often described here. Once a relationship and bedroom are humming along it makes sense to check in and talk about sex. There ends up being a playfulness about it, and that’s when you can start discussing toys, lingerie, new positions, threesomes, etc. A talk DOESN’T get you out of a dead bedroom! People often post about having “a talk” monthly, sometimes even weekly. WTF?! You can’t negotiate desire! You can’t ‘explain’ your way into making someone desire you! It just doesn’t work that way. Those that have ‘a talk’ each month fall foul of this. Maybe they get ‘The Result’, a temporary uptick in the quantity but NOT the QUALITY of sex. That’s because the quality of sex can ONLY come from genuine desire whereas the quantity of sex can come from love or pity or duty or fear. In of itself there is nothing wrong with duty-sex! Even two equally high libido people may find that occasionally one wants sex and the other doesn’t. Duty-sex, that is given freely and out of a place of love, is not bad. But for most of us it’s not what we want all the time, right? We want MORE sex but we want that sex to be passionate and mutually enjoyable. Having ‘a talk’ and having our partner let us masturbate with their body more frequently is… limiting. THE Talk (singular) should only happen once, maybe with a few follow-ups but, I’m sorry to say, it’s going to take YOU putting in some time and work to get there. Start with Step 1: Be Attractive, Don’t be Unattractive. In some of the more misogynistic subs there can be a lot of brutal advice given to those wanting more sex. “Do you even lift, bro?” in a nutshell. The understanding is that when a person is attractive other people will want to have sex with them. A simple enough premise and one that made sense even though, in the beginning, I fought against it. After lurking here for a few years, posting occasionally, trying to ‘convert contract’ my wife into fucking me, nothing was happening. My wife wouldn’t kiss me, hug me or touch me for 18 MONTHS at a time. It wasn’t until I read some of the books in the sidebar and put things into action and they began to pay dividends. For me this started in the (home) gym. Louis C.K has a skit where he likens his soon to be divorced body on a car, left to rot in a backyard somewhere. He jokingly laments his lack of forethought, soon to be single but nowhere near ready to start dating again. I didn’t want to be like that. I made the decision to prioritise exercise. THIS is the silver bullet in my mind! If you want to have more energy to do more things, exercise. If you want your partner over you like a rash or if you want to have the confidence to approach your partner, exercise. It’s not something that should be tacked on to life. It should be the STRUCTURE that everything else hangs off! Fitness, and the discipline to get fit and stay fit, needs to become the central part of your life and not some “if I feel like it, maybe” bullshit! Physical attractiveness is great but it’s also critical to build emotional resilience and stoicism. “Be an adult and own your shit”, is how I normally see it expressed. You’re not having sex? What to know how you DON’T fix that? By being overweight, depressed, grumpy, passive aggressive and an addict! Are some factors out of your control? Absolutely! But make them a SMALL part of who you are. DON’T BE A VICTIM! Are you pulling you weight around the house? Have some hobbies and interests that you can talk passionately about? Do you do any volunteer work or are you spending your time improving your education and career? Have you sent our many job applications lately or managed to get a side-business off the ground and income positive? No-one REALLY cares what you do with your time when you are productive, people ONLY give a shit (and lose respect for you) when you WASTE your time. If you’re spending hours each day watching TV, crack a book instead. If you play video games until 2 am and then wonder why you are always tired, go for a ride or hike and crash at 9 pm. Organise the pantry, clean out the fridge before you get asked. Fold a basket of laundry without making a fuss and NEVER expect a ‘thank you’ that defeats the whole purpose! “But Perth Guy, I do all that and more! Nothing is happening!” Hey, I believe you! Sometimes we already look like Greek gods are do 100% of the housework. So, Step 2: Be Together but Act Single A lot of the stuff in Step 1 may or may not fix your dead bedroom. In my case, it didn’t and for years I simply thought my wife was asexual. In which case swapping me out for Chris Hemsworth wouldn’t change her sexual response at all. As it turns out she IS medically low libido so that remains largely true. What I was working on in those day was my own mental wellbeing. Along with building a better body and a better life, I was building mental self-sufficiency. I worked on NOT needing my wife to validate me (thank you No More Mr. Nice Guy). I worked out and got my education and career on track for myself and for my kids and FOR MY NEXT PARTNER whoever she might be. To that end I worked on breaking the WIFE = INTIMACY fuse in my head. This took a bit of time but separating what you want from what they want to give you is key! You want sex and they want to give you a side hug. You get upset because you wanted sex and they get upset because “why can’t you be happy with a side hug?” There is no winner there. I survived by treating my wife as a roommate and co-worker, maybe a good friend. Someone whose company I enjoy while having no sexual attraction to. I slept separately and moved my toiletries out of the master bathroom. For those doing MORE than their fair share around the house, or financially, now is the time to STOP REWARDING YOUR DENIER. Choreplay doesn’t work! By all means, own your shit as specified in Step 1 but don’t do more and more and more, trying to win/be rewarded with sex. It doesn’t work and if it does it’s more of the duty sex we don’t want. At this stage things may get really, really rocky. Maybe you have been in a very low sex marriage for 20 years and suddenly you’re talking about sending your lazy, Facebook addicted, perpetually unemployed spouse back to work! They may be fine spending 6 hours a day watching TV but asking them to vacuum or do the laundry while you go to work or a run with the dog is treated like a betrayal and “punishment”. Laugh and wink at them as you head to work, book club, or golf. You’ve worked on mental stoicism remember? What they do with their time isn’t your concern UNLESS it interferes with your time. Imagine them to be a slack co-worker or filthy roommate. Treat them accordingly. What are they going to do? Fuck you less? For most dead bedrooms I don’t think you will need to go that far unless the entire relationship is toxic and/or abusive OR involves some measure of mental illness but you never know. Things come to head? “Why are you being this way?” “I thought we were happy?” Yes! We are getting somewhere, FINALLY! Step 3: “THE Talk” You’ve spent the last year or two working on yourself. Your fitness, self-esteem, education and career are all going great or are in upswing. You have friends and family you enjoy spending time with. You have a home and space you enjoy and hobbies and passions that allow you to while away the excess hours productively. Awesome! Feels good, right? You’ve mentally separated yourself from your partner and by this stage the entire relationship is continuing on a day-by-day basis purely on a whim. The whole house of cards is staying up because YOU CHOOSE it to. Perhaps you have ties like a mortgage and kids (and love for your spouse) but at the end of the day if everything went belly-up you know YOU would be OK. Either your partner has noticed your self-improvement and emotional distance OR they have been shaken by your insistence that they do their share around the house. Maybe they come to you fearfully, expecting the worst. Maybe they launch, screaming and crying and full of ‘woe-is-me’ism? Doesn’t really matter. This is “THE Talk” Other may disagree but I found the LLitany very helpful here. During The Talk, KISS is critical. Whenever I read an open letter to an LL spouse I cringe! (Including my own. Seriously, look it up. It’s awful!) They are normally 100-pages long filled with nothing but a list of grievances. Often they are half indignant that sex isn’t happening, and half begging that the lower libido partner “fUcK mE pWeAsE”. A good Talk has one super-simple premise. Unless otherwise agreed, a monogamous and romantic relationship should be sexual! The end. The Talk CANNOT be more complicated than this. The more you try to cram into the Talk the more diluted the message becomes and the more the LL/denier has to dispute and argue against. The LLitany was great because it helped me come up with some really useful and simple conversation-fulcra. You know your spouse, you know the things they will say in their own defense and chances are the LLitany, as a cheat-guide, covers this. You’re not having The Talk to discuss things or argue the finer details of the relationship! All you want to do is spin things back to YOU and unless otherwise agreed, a monogamous and romantic relationship should be sexual! My wife was one of the ones that came to me in anger because I had stopped celebrating our anniversary. I was done pretending. We were friends, roommates, co-parents and owners of shared asset. We were NOT lovers and as far as I was concerned, we were not spouses. I told her that NOTHING needed to change and that I didn’t expect her to have sex with me. In fact I told her that I would say “NO” to obvious duty sex. That announcement; that I’d turn down the very thing I was asking for SERIOUSLY pissed her off. Again, unless otherwise agreed, a monogamous and romantic relationship should be sexual! What she was proposing was weekly duty sex to “keep me happy” (her words) and I explained that went against the idea of ‘romance’. YOU HAVE THE POWER IN THE TALK!!! Our Talk ended when I had said what I wanted to say. My wife tried to continue bargaining but I wasn’t interesting in that. She tried for a few hours to whittle me down into giving her definitive details. How many times a week did I want to have sex? What about oral sex? Would naked cuddling or bathing together count towards our ‘quota’? I just deflected all of that. I was done, remember? I was in my mid-30’s and fit, in control of the finances, with a good career and plenty of hobbies that took me out of the house. Why would pity sex from someone interest me in the slightest? For a few more months she’d bring it up, angry, sad, crying. Asking whether I wanted a divorce right now, whether I wanted her to move out with the kids, etc. I found it all terribly amusing! Where would she go? I stayed the course, continued to love on my kids and be the sole breadwinner, owing my shit around the house and working on myself AND being happy with my life. Being sexless is hard but not life threatening. I gave up porn many years ago and I recommend it if you find yourself being crushed by the weight of sexlessness. Slowly though, a bit at a time. My wife started making an effort. Doing her hair in the morning, a bit of makeup – just because. Dressing better. The house was being kept cleaner and I wasn’t coming home from work every day and immediately attacking a sink full of dirty dishes. She was giving up an episode of TV to ride the exercise bike instead, losing weight in an effort to match me. She started inviting me to shower and have sex, plainly and bluntly to begin with (“Do you want to have sex with me?” asked fearfully and awkwardly) but with greater intimacy and eroticism as time has gone on. She started flirting with me through the day, via text and email. She hand me a cocktail or a beer as I walked in the door, telling me her payment would be me letting her sit on my face later. All those changes and many more were done BY her. I had NO input AT ALL into any of that. She booked her own doctor’s appointment and started reading erotic literature to learn and get comfortable with dirty talk. She asked me what I bench-press with the goal to lose weight so I can easily fuck her against a wall, her legs wrapped around me. What if STILL nothing changes? Without doing any research on the subject, my gut tells me that a LOT of dead bedrooms are multi-faceted, that there are many issues that feed the gradual (or sudden!) decline in the amount of passionate sex. I remain an advocate for LL4U (low libido for you), even before my dead bedroom came to life. I could never buy into the idea of malicious intent behind dead bedrooms. I don’t believe in widespread bait-and-switch OR a sudden lack of love and care by the LL/denier leading to the dead bedroom. For sure there are reasons for people to lose that spark but high-libido people don’t seem to take much ownership over their own words and actions that kill the desire their partners once had for them. For a lot of us, our sexuality and libido is unquenchable but that isn’t the case for everybody. Stress and ill-health can play a part but a negative feedback loop exist where a single rejection (due to feeling sick) gets turned into a two day sulk-fest, that becomes another rejection on Day 3 which becomes a butt hurt, ‘lets be passive aggressive’ day. Maybe sex happens on Day 5 but it isn’t great, the low libido person feels a bit used and the HL person feels unloved. Day six and seven the HL person is aloof, drinks too much and lets some chores go undone. They still try to initiate, more forcefully this time and the LL is forced to either have sex they don’t want to have or reject more sharply. Down and down and down it goes. Maybe all this takes place a day or two at a time but over months and years the carefree nature of sex gets eroded away and it becomes this constant battleground, an Event when it happens which makes the whole thing stressful and scary. Owning up to our own failures and destructive nature is a better way to get sex but IT DOESN’T ALWAYS WORK. As much as malicious withholding, bait-and-switch and other dysfunction is (IMHO) very, very, very rare IT DOES EXIST. This whole plan, Step’s 1, 2 and 3 may be followed to the letter and the dead bedroom remains as dead as it always has been. What then? It’s the end of the road… Step 4: When to walk away. At the end of the day, every dead bedroom is a game TWO people play. It takes TWO people to be in a dead bedroom. Someone who is single and not having sex isn’t in a dead bedroom, they are just single! Relationships can be happy without sex but this is normally discussed at the very beginning, or between two low libido people. Maybe an agreement exists where one person is free to step outside the relationship for sexual pleasure – different strokes for different folks. For those of us in a reluctant dead bedroom the relationship can and may still be very happy and fulfilling, “Everything is perfect, but…” Just because people don’t have sex doesn’t mean the relationship is doomed to fail, in the same way that two people having lots of sex aren’t necessarily perfect for one another. The plan for me, was more than anything, a way of giving my sexless marriage meaning and happiness. I reasoned that my wife didn’t OWE me sex and I didn’t want my happiness hinging on sex. The steps I took and the self-improvement I went through wasn’t about making my wife fuck me! They were to make my life happy regardless of whether I was getting fucked or not. Saying that I NEVER planned to remain sexless forever and we ALL have our breaking point. Within the first year, working out every day and watching what I ate, I was the fittest I’ve ever been. I was working in a great job and enjoying my life. I had several hobbies that occupied my time and I was spending that time with other like minded people, INCLUDING other women. I wear glasses but I am not blind. I could see the looks and read between the lines when other women spoke with me. Several went so far to tell me that if I ever wanted a FWB I just had to let them know. The Choice: safe and sexless relationship OR the uncertain future is what you make it. If at the end of it all if your spouse WILL NOT or CAN NOT have sex with you, and if that HAS to happen for you to be happy, then your “Options” are limited but simple. You ask for an open relationship (or not) and get sex elsewhere OR you leave. If you’ve gone two or three years building a life that doesn’t NEED your spouse or partner then there shouldn’t be a lot of fear around this decision. I was staying for my kids but had we not had children I would have been gone when I realised OTHER women found me desirable and attractive. We all have our limit. Hopefully your dead bedrooms can turn around but if not, leaving the relationship with a really good foundation of desirability will make sure you get sex sooner rather than later. All the best!
2020.05.29 05:14 dqwertyujhffNever had a PC before- Help would be greatly appreciated.
What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.**
I would be using it for similar titles to Console such as Battlefield, Star Wars Battlefront and also single player titles as well. I would also Intend to use it for work as I currently have a macbook and would sell it to contribute to the funds.
>**What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?**
I would say that my budget would be up to 1200 AUD or let me know if it might have to be more.
>**When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.**
I would plan on doing it soon but once I have all the information I need for such a big purchase.
>**What, exactly, do you need included in the budget?
The only thing would be the monitor.
>**Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?**
>**If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.**
>**Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?**
Not sure, maybe if playing for a long time at once.
>**Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)**
I would like a decent amound of storage for games and other things.
>**Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?**

Lambda holds what probably is the most representative KC Survey once a year and publishes the results. With over 8000 entries this time, it should give a nice overview of the Japanese KC Community (and the foreigners that took part in it as well) at large. Both the survey and the results were published in Japanese, and after asking permission from Lambda I will summarize the most important points in the following. The untranslated results can be found here. I recommend having it open while reading along.
Pages 1+2: Server Population and Join Dates
The most popolous Server is Hashi, followed by Kure. The eldest 5 Servers have a significant portion of Players who got into them via Server-Transfer. A total of 24,5% of the Survey Participants were successfull in changing Servers in their Playtime. The newer Servers don't seem to be a desirable target for switching to. The Second half of 2013 notes the half-year in which most Players joined the game, followed by a steady decline of new Players in the following years. The only exception to that is the first half of 2015, marking the release of the Kancolle Anime (hopes for Season 2 Player influx is not entirely unjustified then). Most of the Anime Newfaces seemed to have landed on the Servers Hashi and Saiki. 50% of the Survey Participants already joined before the end of 2014, the 90%th Percentile was reached just before the end of 2017.
Page 2: Demographics
90% of the Admirals are male, 10% female. The age distribution peaks at 25 years old (making them 18-20 when the game launched and got the majority of the players), with a long and mostly linear trail down to 56 years old, putting the average age of the survey participants in the high 20s to early 30s. Sadly Lambda doesn't actually provide a number at that point.
Page 3: Foreigners and understanding of the Japanese Language
81% of the Survey participants were claiming to be japanese, 18% to be foreigners. The Rest are either foreigners living in Japan or Japanese living abroad. The gross majority of foreign players stems from China, Taiwan and Hong Kong. Lambda doesn't provide a percentage here either, but here is an approximate breakdown of the most important foreign playerbase:
Hong Kong: 10%
Foreigners in Japan: 5%
Interesting note at that point: To my knowledge the Vietnamese community is pretty large, but only 2 of them seemed to have managed to fill out this survey. So take these numbers with a grain of salt since the survey spread might not have been ideal among the foreign playerbase in addition to the language barrier posed by the survey itself. Which brings us to the next point: Understanding of Japanese in Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing: Almost 40% of foreigners attest to a decent proficiency to reading Japanese, another 45% attest to understanding a bit and the remaining 15% can't read Japanese at all. Listening gives a 35/52/13, Speaking a 20/50/30 and Writing a 20/35/45 split for the same proficiencies. Lambda notes that a decent amount of people can play without understanding a single bit of japanese and puts it to the expansive wikis that exist. Yay, EN Community, I guess.
Page 4: Shipgirl Popularity
There were a lot of Categories to fill out and I won't translate all 240 rows of that table. Instead, i will give you the Top 10 (descending) and Flop 10 (with the least popular one at the top) of each category. The second column is a result of a cumulative vote on up to 30 Shipgirls for each participant of the survey.
I like them
Deserves a K2
No Major upsets here. New ships or those fogotten by the devs or the playerbase are not popular, while, well, the popular girls are the most liked. The only interesting tidbit is that Abukuma makes it to #1 married ship and Kitakami, Nagato and Musashi also being high up there despite not being very high in the other two categories. I personally would put that to the statistical aspects of the ships making a bigger influence here.
Page 5: Kanmusu wishes
Lambda left the survey participants some space to write a personal message to their favourite, won't be summarizing that. The other Part of that page was a space for the participants to voice a desire for an upcoming Shipgirl Archetype. The most popular ones were "elder sister", "loli battleship" and "glasses". Makes me wonder why Hirato and Amagiri scored so low in the previous section, but what do I know. Both Sado and Maso of the options that were predetermined by Lambda were the least popular suggestions. There is also a whole plethora of user-made suggestions, but I won't make a summary on those.
Page 6: Starter Ships & Kuso
The most common startership chosen is Inazuma (38%), followed by Fubuki (25%), Murakumo (17%), Samidare (13%) and then Sazanami (7%). Looking at the starter ships chosen by joined year of the survey Participants, it is noticeable that Fubuki got a decent popularity boost in 2015 with the anime release, but the distribution stayed mostly stable since then (2020 has bit low sample size, so rather ignore that one). About 38% of Admirals have to admit that their highest level Shipgirl is not neccesarily their favourite one. 71% of Admirals admit to having sunk a Shipgirl on accident. 26% admit to intentionally sinking Shipgirls, which marks a 3% increase from last years survey, Lambda notes.
Page 7: Highest Levels/Married Ships
The most common answer to the question "what is your highest level shipgirl" was the levelcap, 175, followed by the first cap, 99. The Median and Average of the highest level shipgirl don't deviate much and are 150 and 147 respectivly. There is a not insignificant proportion of survey participants who have not married at all, but most commonly they seem to be marrying around 1-25. Monagamy almost was the most common choice, only beaten by the choice of being married with about 10 girls. Afterwards the amount of total girls married decreases steadily.
Page 8+9: Resources and Materials
The stock of the primary resources Fuel/Ammo/Steel/Bauxite have two peaks: At Softcap and Hardcap, with a rather even distribution inbetween them. The major takeaway here is that steel seems to be most easily capped, followed by bauxite. Buckets don't have a softcap, but a similiar pattern emerges: Either being capped or being broke are the most common result, with everything inbetween being rather evenly distributed. Both Screws and Medals are not hoarded by the majority of the survey participants and are either being used ASAP or not acquired at all. The average Screw count might seem high with 100, but the Median is at 29, meaning that number gets grossly inflated by the hoarders. Similarly, Medals are averaged at 36.5, while the Median is 14. Most Admirals didn't choose to expand their Fleet Presets (40%), about 23% each expanded to 5 and 10 Presets and 15% makes use of up to 15 Fleet Presets. Despite there "only" being about 240 Shipgirls, most survey participants expanded their total slot number way beyond that (most commonly the MAX being 430), with a second peak centered around 300-340 slots. Most likely to retain dupes and more equipment slots. Only a very small minority (3%) is still operating on 100 slots. Most Survey Participants (46%) measure their yearly Kancolle expense in the thousands of Yen (1k Yen ~9.2$ or ~8.5€), while 40% measure it in tens of thousands of Yen. About 7% spent more than 100.000 Yen in the passing year, while 6% were free2play.
Page 10: HQ and playing the game
The majority of survey participants is HQ Level 120 (55%), and additional 39% are in the HQ110-119 Range. Lambda points out that there is an 11% increase of HQ Level 120 since the last time the survey has been held. The average amount of Sorties done by players is around 100.000, only very few pass the 200.000 mark. Around 48% of survey participants have ranked at least once in their carreer, most of them in T500 only. Around 35% ranked in the second half of 2019 and 16% in december 2019. It is noteworthy that Lambda points out that out of the ~10000 Rankers (500x20 Servers + Comments) in December 1302, or about 13% of all of them, took part in this survey. Considering there are about 10.000 active accounts per Server and only 500 (5%) would get rewards it is a strong indicator that this survey was filled out by a way more dedicated audience than the average player. Most survey participants only complete the daily missions up to and including "10 Daily Battles" (58%) and if they are doing Daily W2 Bosses, they usually pull through and Complete Daily 6 subs as well (18%). 10% choose not to do Daily Missions. The weekly mission completion rates are as follows:
Weekly Sorties 1: 75%
Weekly CV: 75%
Weekly Transports 1: 68%
Weekly Transports 2: 46%
Weekly Submarines: 67%
Weekly World 4: 28%
Weekly World 3: 43%
Further Weeklies: 18%
The game is most commonly played on Mobile and PC (multiple answers possible here though). A little less than 4% said that they were only playing with mobile devices. Google Chrome was by far the most used Browser; the most common viewer used is the T74 Electronic Observer, followed by kcv, poi and then KC3.
Page 11: Events and A-Class Medals
A pattern similiar to the Resources emerge once again: There are two peaks at 0 and 18 A-Class Medals acquired by the admirals participating in this survey. Out of those Admirals who have gotten the full set, only a very small minority (2%) decided to convert them to fuel/screws. Overall, 6% of the survey participants scrap these Medals on average. The average survey participant has claimed 6.75 Hard Medals to their name. The next Figure concerns itself with Event Participation and perceived difficulty. The 5 most difficult Events were:
The 5 Events perceived to be the most easy ones were:
It is interesting to see that the last couple of Events were neither perceived as particulary easy nor particulary hard. The Events of 2019 were completed on Hard by a majority of Survey Participants (43-52%).
Page 12: Gameplay Mechanics Test
4 Gameplay related statements were made and had to be identified as "wrong" or "correct" by the survey participants. The majority of participants got the questions right, but only at about a 60% rate.
Page 13: Offline-Events
The most popular KC Offline Event among Survey Participants seemed to be the Zuiun Festival 2019, which 1200 (or about 15%) of them attended. Other contestants are the Deep Sea Circus and New Year 2020 in Yokohoma. The Curry in Tokio didn't seem to be quite as popular. When going to an Offline-Event, most (57%) are going alone, 23% with an IRL friend, 10% with an Online Friend and the remainder with their GF/Family. The following places have been visited by the survey participants:
Ship Shrines of no further description: 8%
Other Shrines: 11%
Other pilgrimage site in foreign countries: 4%
When it comes to buying official collaboration goods in 2019, close to 70% of Survey Participants got something from Lawson, 19% from Mikutoshi, 15% from HIROTA and 2% from JAL. Most Participants (63%) never played the Arcade version of KanColle, 32% have played at least once and 4% are currently active players.
Page 13: Secondary Creation
A Quarter of Admirals are proud to admit that they have drawn a shipgirl themselves at least once. 82% never cosplayed a Kancolle character, 13% would like to give it a try and only 5% actually did it. About 40% of survey Participants don't own any Doujinshis for KanColle, 30% 1-10, 21% between 10 and 100 and 10% own more than 100 thin booklets. 3% of the Survey Participants answered that they took part in creation of this kind of Secondary Media.
Page 14: Secondary/Supplementary Information Sources
For general KanColle-Related content, the following sites are frequented:

Video Sites (niconico/youtube): 57%
Illustration sites (pixiv etc.): 44%
Anonymous Image Boards: 28%
"I don't usually look at KanColle sites": 4%
For the purposes of gathering information during Events, the following sources are used for help:

Calculation tools/pages: 46%
Frontline/Livesteam Summary etc.: 33%
Overseas Kancolle Wiki: 25%
Anonymous Image Boards: 20%
"I don't look for secondary Information during Events": 0,8%
Page 15: Wishes for KanColle
This Page contains a lot user-input, the only easily quantifyable part is where Lambda provided a couple of options for future developments in KanColle a survey participant might want to see:
Help for Newcomers: 49%
Better leveling spots: 48%
Event Reruns: 43%
No more Hardcap: 41%
Equipment Presets: 41%
UI Improvements: 40%
Friend Fleet Implementation (for reals this time): 25%
iPhone App: 21%
Develop 10 items at a time: 20%
Collabs with other games and anime: 19%
3D/VR Support: 13%
Page 16: Other Games and KanColle Retention
About 40% of Survey Participants do not play other Games in the same space as Kancolle, the rest plays a selection of the following (multiple answers possible, only listing the most popular ones):
Azur Lane: 13%
Princess Connect!: 10%
Flower Knight Girl(s?): 7%
BanG Dream!: 6%
Puzzle (and Dragons?): 5%
Touken Ranbu: 4%
The Majority of survey participants (57%) will stick to KanColle till the end, 37% will go on as long as they can, 2.6% are considering retirement, 1.4% want to stop rather soon and 1.6% of the participants already quit the game
Page 17+18: R-18, the lood stuff
80% of Survey Participants decided to take it to that stage. All further Questions will be filtered after them. Out of those, 83% did the deed with a Shipgirl, but only 70% to a shipgirl they married. 25% admit to making a gun inspection with official art as reference. On a scale from 1-7, the favourite chest-armour-sizes were asked (but no points of reference given): 5%/10%/17%/20%/26%/11%/10%. The median size desired is 4, the average 4.26 On a related note, survey participants were asked their opinion on Minegumos assets (relating to a comment made by conishi when she released). 33% disagree on that kind of armour on an Asashio class DD, 45% are okay with it. The remaining 21% chose the meme answer "むしろ興奮する", along the lines of "ngl, it's kinda hot". The IRL sexual activity of those who took part in this part of the survey are: 45% male virgins, 15% virgin males who only lost it to a prostitute, 3% female virgins, 26% regular non-virgins and 10% married admirals. In the next section, admirals were asked to pick their 30 favourite Kanmusu for night battles as well as those who they already did it with. Here, the top and bottom 15 for each category will be picked:
Been there, done that
Page 19: Hardmode Admirals
The last page of the survey analysis concerns itself with a comparison of those admirals who completed the last 4 Events on Hard (38%) as opposed to those who didn't on a couple of cornerstones:
The older a player is, the more likely he was to complete the Events in hardmode. It seems that joining about the second half of 2017 is the point at which last years Events in hard were possible for a decent amount of player.
Hard mode admirals are more likely to have more ships married.
The number of Buckets for Hardmode-clearers is more evenly distributed, there is no peak at the lower end and the non-hard-clearers have a significantly higher peak at the cap as well.
Those who clear hard are more likely to spend excessive amount of money (>100.000 Yen), but are proportionally less than in the other spending categories.
Likewise, those who cleared the past Events on hard are also playing more daily.
The Questions asked on Page 12 were answered correctly by a higher portion of hard players than the others. The Delta is about 15%.
IRL Event attendence is a bit higher for hard mode admirals than it is for the others.
Hard Mode cleares are more likely to diversify their information sources for events. 1: This is just an estimate, with Hashi being the biggest Server and depending on how much you stretch the definition of "active player" this number could be higher than 10.000 per Server even.

2020.03.25 02:30 Scyllarious572 positive cases, 8 cases resolved, 8 cases deceased, 10074 cases under investigation and 21795 negative cases in Ontario, Canada. An increase of 85 positive cases from yesterday
Source Graph of positive cases Today, we had an increase of 85 positive cases after testing 2,294 cases. Furthermore we had two more deaths today, one from the new cases and one from our previous cases. The number of positive cases each day continues to rise as our provincial government does fuck all and decides nearly all work is considered essential. I saw a bunch of comments praising Ford for his action and even I thought that the closure of all non-essential services by Ford was great move by him. Turns out my expectations was set too high. Thanks Ford. Side note, about the case information table part. If you didn't notice it, it looks slightly different than before. This is because they added an extra space on each line for no apparent reason. It barely changes the actual look of the table but when I try to copy it onto reddit to make my table, it really fucks up the formating. Originally, when I copy it over to reddit, it would look something like this:
101 pending Toronto pending pending self-isolating
And all I would do is put '' in between the spaces Now when you try to copy it it becomes:
504 30s Male Kingston Frontenac Lennox Addington travel (UK) self-isolating
Now I have to delete the extra spaces to make them back into a single line, for every single case. What a hassle.
2020.03.19 01:26 Scyllarious209 positive cases, 5 cases resolved, 1 case deceased, 3378 cases under investigation and 10305 negative cases in Ontario, Canada. An increase of 25 positive cases from yesterday.
Source Graph of positive cases Today we saw an increase of 25 positive cases twice as that as yesterday. While the number of cases under investigation has increased by almost 2000 cases in a single day, do note that the number of cases tested today has dropped. Meaning we tested less people today but saw twice the amount of positive cases. The silver lining is that the sudden increase of cases under investigation might mean that they're loosening the criteria for people to be tested. Also another thing, we've only had 3 positive cases in Toronto for today and yesterday. I just find that number to be very very unlikely. It could be the lack of testing kits as we see a reduction in testing capabilities AGAIN, but take that how you will. Another small thing to note, the Ontario website took away the hospital information from the case table section. This means that we're unable to know which hospital the cases are at. Strange decision from Ontario
Actually Jehovah's Witnesses have suspended all activity until the pandemic is under control. People are very scared right now, we want to respect how they feel and also do our part to not spread this virus more than it already is. I do hope other religions follow our response and suspend activity too. God is not going to keep you from getting sick, and you'll get others sick, and those others could die. Please stay at home as much as you can, keep yourself and your homes clean. Do your part.
I get that this is probably going to be an unpopular comment, but as someone who grew up as a JW, please don't do this. I was abused at the door and I didn't even want to be doing it, I had no choice. Just tell them to go away and ask to be put on the do not call list. You have no idea if the person at your door actually hates being there or not and even deserves to be abused.
I'm one of Jehovah's witnesses and what we do isn't a "recruitment". We focus on bringing people hope in their creator by showing the truth of the bible and it's promises. Recruitment is something the governments have been doing for millenniums, working on people's emotions with lies and empty promises, pitting one group against another and the masses have no qualms at what their party does. We don't force anyone to come to our meetings or have bible studies, it's all up to the householder. If you don't want to hear of what the bible's promises hold out for mankind, then you can hang your hat on the empty promises every four years these candidates dole out and see if you aren't anything but lied to again and taken for as they always do. But recruit is not what we do. Everyone has a choice and we are looking for ones who willingly want to learn more.
You're coming from a good place, and no offense is intended. The term 'recruitment' may not be used internally by your organization, but in essence, that is the purpose of preaching. To go and make disciples as the bible puts it. Sure, recruitment is a military term, but if you Google the definition of 'recruitment' you will also find this: "the action of finding new people to join an organization or support a cause." As a Jehovah's Witness, what choice is it that you are really offering the rest of the world? Choice 1 - Survive armageddon by becoming a disciple, which requires baptism into the organization and active ministry work. Basically, become a Jehovah's Witness. Choice 2 - Don't become a Jehovah's Witness, and be killed by God at Armageddon. You may not be used to hearing it put so bluntly, but that is indeed the teaching. One of your new books, Pure Worship, states it plainly -- to even have a hope of surviving, you must be baptized and active (preaching) as a Jehovah's Witness. So you see, if the goal is to save people, and the only way they can be saved is to join your organization, can you understand how that looks a lot like recruiting for an organization?
I’m an ex Jehovahs Witness. They read newspapers of people who have died and will send letters to the family to use the mourning as a way to get people in their cult because “you can see your loved one in paradise because he will be resurrected”.
Theyre obnoxious at best when they go from door to door. They're also an internally hateful group that believes in shunning people completely for not meeting their standards and are commonly mentally and verbally abusive to their kids by using God as a carrot and stick and treating God as though he were a real person always watching you and if he's sad because of something you did(read mad at you for defying him) he'll fuck you up. They're encouraged to go out and recruit people because they genuinely care about not having people burn in hell. However they come on strong and that turns away alot of people. They are also some of the most horrible to debate with because of how they were raised to think that the outsiders and ex members are all reveling in lies and they're the only ones getting to heaven. And theyre known to have alot of sex offenders that get away Scott free because of archaic rules Basically it's an extreme sect of Christianity (being nice here) that often at minimum pisses people off and at maximum puts lives in danger with their archaic rules and ruins many more by shunning on a daily basis.
I’m a physically in, mentally out JW, and honestly, while I wish wasn’t such a serious virus, I sure am loving not having to go out preaching or to the Kingdom Hall. I can’t wait until I’m out of here for good tho
I just talked to my Mom yesterday who is still a Jehovah's Witness. They cancelled all their house to house field service for the foreseeable future, they cancelled their next convention, and she was worried it would affect the Memorial. She's the kindest lady ever and I could tell she was bummed out, but they are having their regular meetings over the phone so she is happy she can still listen in to the services.
Often I see people expressing their dislike for JW's because of an abusive relative who claimed to be one. It's common as well for people to take outliers who do not actually uphold their true values, and build negative associations. As for the controversy on blood transfusions, it's no surprise to me that it shocks people looking in. If what they believe is true, then they are doing the right thing. Those who do not believe in their God will obviously disagree.
My wife grew up in a very religious Jehovah's witnesses house and that is one FUCKED UP religion. They screwed up her sense of self and sexuality as well as sheltering her from everything. Then, to top it all off.. after years of abuse, she dated a non-jehovahs witness boy so they ex-communicated her. Parents wouldn't speak to her for years.. until, she had our child. They sent us cards and money, but that stopped when she told her sister there was no way our son was going to be a Jehovah's witness. Fuck anyone that puts a anything before their own child. I don't give a fuck if god is real or not, you're a parent and that child comes first. Before your religion, before your spouse, before yourself.
Family is a Jehovah witness, pretty sure all door-to-door meetings are cancelled along with normal services. Also just tell them politely to stop coming. They are made to respect your decision and won’t bother you. They aren’t supposed to at least.
They’re a cult who believe god is going to kill everyone on earth except them. They are homophobic, shun family members who leave the religion, and allow their children to die instead of giving them blood transfusions. That’s the short version of it. Source: was a Jehovah’s Witness for 20 years
Not disfellowshipped. Disassociated is the one you want. Disfellowshipped means you've been kicked out until you repent and can be let back in. So they will possibly just send elders to your home to check on you and "encourage" you. Disassociating is a personal decision made by the former JW, making a public statement that you no longer wish to be a member of their organization. They label you an apostate at that point and wont touch you with a ten foot pole. Experience: 28 yrs as a JW before I bounced.
In the state of Florida, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee and Utah I know they have suspended preaching and services. I am a JW and have family in all of those states that are JW as well. I’m not sure of other places though...
I just monotone "I'm not interested," although hanging up a "No Soliciting" sign actually does wonders for keeping the door to door people away. Last place I lived I had a custom "No soliciting" sign made up that was modeled after an Aperture Science sign in portal. It said: Remember: DO NOT: * Solicit the Residents * Loiter or Tresspass * Touch the Glass DO: * Wear a shirt and shoes at all times. * Move through your test track quickly. * Not forget to not touch the glass. And it had a little Aperture logo at the bottom of the sign. I really should contact the company that made it for me and see if I can get some more done.
from what i've learned from all the ex JW stuff i've read, saying them 'no' doesn't get you off their list, it just means you didn't tell them to fuck off and die, so you might give their message a chance if pressed enough times. they also seem to be very knowleable about someone losing a loved oned and mysteriously show up at such times.
Haha I'm one of Jehovah's witnessing. Pretty sure round the world we have suspended witnessing (door to door work) and meetings/gatherings till the pandemic is over! Edit: Guys tbh I didn't really come here to argue. The only point of me commenting was to convey the message that we aren't going door to door... I wasn't getting "messagey" or preaching to any of you or even trying to change your minds, it's not ignorance, its just me not asking your opinion, I'm a big boy I can read the internet and make my own opinion, even if the organization is flawed I still believe in the message they teach. Now thankyou all for your opinion and evidence supplied but at the end of the day I never asked. Next time if you want to have a genuine convo don't be toxic (not everyone is being toxic) and I'll listen to your viewpoint, cause that is how a civilized argument is made.
This isn't completely true. My dad was disfellowshipped as a young man and then when I was growing up we all would go to meetings, albeit at a different kingdom hall. I guess that's why. But when we left we would still be visited at least once a week.
I wasn't aware that they try to "fix" anyone who is gay. I believe JW's who are gay just ignore their sexual attractions and don't act on them. They remain single. I'm not sure if things were always this way but as of now the religion doesn't teach to "fix" gay people or do any sort of harm to them intentionally.
I grew up with jehovas witnesses parents and i left at around 18 (i still talk to most people) they do understand you can have a bad day and they can understand that you don't wish to be visited. You can either tell them you are not interessed in wich case they will usually come back about 5-10 times a year. You can tell them to put you on a list to not be visited again. Then they will come once every couple years just to ask you if you havent changed your mind or moved out. And if you show interest they will be happy to fill it up. If you wanna get more information you just have to tell them. jJust be honest and tell them your boundaries. If you want to get information without even having to talk to one of them they had a nice website at that time ~5y ago its jw.org.
Tell them you have been "disfellowshipped" and watch them run and never come back. Dishfellowshipping is the act of shunning or ex-communicating people from the JW religion, you become a persona non grata. Members are strictly forbidden from interacting with disfellowshipped people.
I invite them to a meeting with my Wiccan friends. We are practicing potions and spell casting. They don’t ever come back. I’m not Wiccan but I would be more interested in that than in anything a JW or LDS wants to talk about.
2020.03.08 01:37 Which-EmployeeWHO - Water, sanitation, hygiene and waste management for COVID-19
My view on the concept of 'panic' is that a worrying behaviour is when you start speculating about worse case scenarios and reacting to baseless fears. It is not panic to pose a question and then seek out an answer to that question. I was down-voted quite a lot for hypothesising about why people are stressing about drinking water in the perth thread (someone was calling people ridiculous for stocking up on drinking water). In response I proposed that people may be concerned about water sanitation. I though that this was interesting information on the topic: The World Health Organization released a technical brief on Water, sanitation, hygiene and waste management for COVID-19. Be aware that when they say "no evidence to date", it means there is no research done... no one has actually tested the water. There is some evidence to indicate that COVID-19 may lead to intestinal infection and be present in faeces. Approximately 2-10% of cases with confirmed COVID-19 presented with diarrhoea and two studies reported detection of COVID-19 viral RNA fragments in faecal matter of COVID-19 patients. However, to date, only one study has cultured the COVID-19 virus from a single stool specimen. There have not been reports of fecal-oral transmission of COVID-19 to date". "While there is no evidence, to date, on the COVID-19 virus survival in water or sewage, the virus is likely to become inactivated significantly faster than non-enveloped human enteric viruses with known waterborne transmission (e.g., adenovirus, norovirus, rotavirus and Hepatitis A). For example, one study found that human coronavirus survived only 2 days in dechlorinated tap water and hospital wastewater at 20 degrees C. Other studies concur; noting that human coronavirus demonstrated a 99.9% die-off from 2 days to 2 weeks at 23 degrees C and 25 degrees C, respectively. Heat, high or low pH, sunlight and common disinfectants (e.g. chlorine) all facilitate die-off." "The presence of the COVID-19 virus has not been detected in drinking-water supplies and based on current evidence the risk to water supplies is low. While laboratory studies of surrogate coronaviruses taking place in well controlled environments indicate that the virus can remain infectious in fecally contaminated water for days to weeks. A number of measures can be taken to improve water safety starting with source water protection, treatment of water (at point of distribution, collection, or consumption), and safe storage of treated water in regularly cleaned and covered containers at home". "It is not certain how long the virus that causes COVID-19 survives on surfaces, but it seems likely to behave like other coronaviruses." So basically, there is evidence that the virus is present in fecal matter, however they have only been able to culture the virus from fecal matter from one stool sample. Viruses can survive on surfaces up to 9 days (in the best possible conditions of temperature and humidity) and will likely die in water in 20 minutes. Article talking about survival of a previous Coronavirus: https://www.microbiologyresearch.org/content/journal/jgv/10.1099/0022-1317-66-12-2743 I would be interested to know how they would determine a fecal transmission as opposed to just assuming it was droplet transmission, if anyone has insight into this feel free to point me toward some reading.
